Making music has been my dream since I was a little girl. But dreaming about something and letting yourself actually go for it are two very different things.

It took me a long time to accept it, to believe in it, and to get past my own fears. For three years I’ve been learning music production in Ableton: experimenting, finding my own sound, and loving more and more what’s coming out of it.

Yesterday, while uploading my very first single, I cried. Tears of joy. Of disbelief. I’m actually doing this.

Something I’ve carried since childhood is finally becoming real, and part of me still can’t believe it.

Of course my first song had to be about Colombia. 🌿

“El Pacto del Frailejón” is a tribute to the páramos and the frailejones, those incredible plants that capture, store and release water, quietly sustaining so much life in my country. It’s also a piece of my childhood. I grew up listening to my mum sing huaynos and Colombian bambucos, and that sound lives in this song.

I don’t think I fit neatly into one genre, and I don’t want to. I want to explore, experiment, and make weird things, beautiful things, danceable things, Colombian things. Whatever comes out of me.

And on October 24, the day it comes out, I’ll perform it live in Bogotá at Frailejón Fest, an event that honours the frailejones, the glaciers and the páramos of the world.

Mi acercamiento a la pintura abstracta nace de una pregunta sobre el conocimiento: ¿cuánto sabemos por experiencia y cuánto sabemos antes de saber que lo sabemos?
.
Entre lo a priori, la memoria y la intuición hay información que existe antes de que podamos nombrarla.

Quizás la abstracción sea una forma de acceder a ese lugar: producir algo antes de entenderlo, antes de clasificarlo, antes de convertirlo en lenguaje.

Hacer visible lo que sé sin saber que lo sé.

Hace años que intento entender dónde termino yo y dónde empieza el mundo.

Durante mucho tiempo pensé en el individuo como algo cerrado. Un cuerpo, una mente, una identidad. Algo que existe por sí mismo.
.
Pero el objeto necesita del sujeto que lo percibe. El sujeto necesita de un mundo que pueda ser percibido.

Esto lo tuve claro desde mi primer disco y es, en parte, lo que me impulsó a comenzar a sacar música, a compartirla.

Una cosa aparece porque hay otra frente a ella.

Desde Abstract Ways vengo dando vueltas alrededor de esta idea. Antes desde la abstracción. Ahora desde algo mucho más íntimo: el amor.

Porque amar también destruye un poco la fantasía de ser individuos aislados.

Hay un yo porque hay un otro.
Hay deseo porque existe distancia.
Hay pérdida porque antes hubo vínculo.
Hay identidad porque algo fuera de nosotros nos devuelve una forma.

Y cuanto más pienso lo íntimo, más difícil me resulta separarlo de lo colectivo.

Una relación entre dos personas y una sociedad entera parecen escalas distintas de una misma pregunta:

¿Cómo coexistimos?

¿Qué poseemos?
¿Qué entregamos?
¿Qué esperamos del otro?
¿Qué construimos juntos?
¿Qué estamos dispuestos a perder para dejar de existir solamente para nosotros mismos?

Últimamente encuentro más sentido ahí que en el individuo como centro de todo.

En la relación.
En la interpretación.
En lo común.

Me he dado cuenta de que yo, como persona, como humano, he crecido porque me he relacionado. Porque he buscado cosas en común con otros. En el amor, en la pérdida, en lo que permanece y en lo que deja de estar.

Quizás por eso el siguiente disco tenía que llamarse Luna Roja.

La luna no produce su propia luz.

Necesita de otra cosa para aparecer ante nosotros.

Y aun así, la vemos.

‘Loyal Dog’ is out everywhere today! 🍊 I wrote this song years ago from a very raw place emotionally, so it feels strange (but good!) releasing it now being in a very different place in life. The song explores the grief of heartbreak but also surrendering to life, and pouring that love back into yourself to bloom 🌼🌺🌸 I hope it can help someone to feel something 🩵

I’m so grateful to all the amazing humans who helped me to create this, including @analogphotobcn who brought my orange tree vision to life in Barcelona with the cover art :)
