It’s hard to even know where to start posting photos from my birthday. Because the celebrating started way before.

This year I had what I quietly called a Virgo season opener: a “girl dinner” in honor of girlfriends both near and far, old and new. Then another dinner party, which, because of a huge thunderstorm, flooded roads, and a power outage, turned into a boy dinner. Plus me and Ines. She and I laughed a lot at this.

And before all these dinners, Claudius built me a garden table to hold it all—an early birthday gift, and a day spent together. The table hasn’t been used yet because of the intensity of our summer weather, but it sits there waiting.

And then my dear friends came from North Carolina in this wild season to help celebrate me—my childhood best friend, Nicole, and her husband Cesar. So of course I gathered everyone up more.

There was a huge dinner on my actual birthday—a beautiful party given to me by my friend Ana, with loads of cooking together, a garden walk, and silly shenanigans into the night. A party that touched every color.

And the next night, a house concert at home with Mateo Rose and Christina Marie—a way to honor bringing new creative work into the world, a way of making a deeper promise to say yes to that when we feel the call.

And then another party—a night of dancing on the roof of my friend Miguel’s place, Yao, bringing people from the town together. I snuck out a little early from that one. Finally, I was tired.

This year has been about celebrating aliveness. Not just a new year, but the fact of being alive itself.

This year I sat next to death and made a friend of him. And his greatest gift was whispering in my ear a reminder that I am here. Right here. Right now. With all these beautiful, wonderful souls.

Thank god for that. I am very glad.

“Every true love and friendship is a story of unexpected transformation. If we are the same person before and after we loved, that means we haven’t loved enough.”

― Elif Shafak, The Forty Rules of Love

SANCTUARY OF WILD ARTS

🌱

Outside of the guided action hours, time opens to evolve personal and collective projects - writing, sculpting, composing, drawing, dancing, building, dreaming.

As part of this both aloneness and gathering happens, as a place to share creative journeys, passions, skills, visions.

This is a place where ideas cross-pollinate, where unexpected collaborations arise, where transformation happens quietly, not because it is promised, but because a fullness is lived.

SANCTUARY OF WILD ARTS

What we are growing

The Wild Arts Residency is not an event, but a weaving of journeys. It is part of a bamboo village of living architecture; a long-term creative ecosystem; a place where family life, art, stewardship and imagination coexist; a body of work that emerges from relationship with land and dreams.

We imagine artists staying long enough to root as part of a season, becoming part of the unfolding story. Structures may be built that remain. Gardens planted that continue to feed. Art created that might return to soil, become part of the landscape or move on to an exhibition space or platform elsewhere.

*

Living inside wildness

Residents inhabit organic bamboo architecture, held by the forest.

Daily life includes walking through groves at dawn, swimming in natural water, listening to rain on woven roofs, working with hands and heart under green canopies.

Wildness is a lived texture. The environment itself becomes part of the residency, shaping thought, slowing rhythm, softening edges, inviting new forms.
