One of the things I really dig about what Dan Bach does with @anarchytodiapers is that he isn’t trying to polish the life out of the scene.

In this clip, Dan talks about why he likes those on-the-spot interviews where you can hear the bands in the background and feel everything happening around the conversation. Sometimes you get the perfect clip. Sometimes you don’t. That’s part of it. You’re catching people in a real moment, and there should be some kindness and respect for someone giving you their time in the middle of all that chaos.

That idea runs through a lot of our full conversation on the new episode of DCxPC Live Presents: Scene Support.

Dan and I talk about growing up in metal, punk, hardcore, graffiti, and tattooing, becoming a parent, stepping away from tattooing, and eventually starting Anarchy to Diapers as a way to stay creative and connected to the scene. We get into parenthood, marriage, burnout, raising kids, balancing responsibilities with the things that still matter to us, documenting DIY culture as it actually happens, and figuring out how to grow up without necessarily growing out.

If you’ve spent a big part of your life in punk or another underground community and are trying to figure out how adulthood, family, creativity, and the scene all fit together, this one gets into a lot of that.

Full episode is available now wherever you listen to podcasts and on the DCxPC Live YouTube channel.

One of the things I loved about talking with Dan Bach of @anarchytodiapers is that we’re approaching our podcasts from different directions, but trying to accomplish something similar.

Anarchy to Diapers moves between music, family, parenting, and life in the scene, creating something that doesn’t just speak to the person in the band, but to the family around them too.

And as Dan points out in this clip, Scene Support is slowly building a roadmap of the people who make DIY music happen. Promoters, podcasters, photographers, sound engineers, labels, venues, zines, and community builders in different cities and different scenes.

The more we know each other, the easier it becomes to connect, collaborate, and keep this whole thing moving.

My full conversation with Dan Bach of Anarchy to Diapers is available now on DCxPC Live Presents: Scene Support.
