Family breastfeeding history : my mother breastfed me and she was breastfed by my grandma and so on. Came from the Philippines where extended nursing was normal and encouraged. ( it’s important to note that I came from a small village in the Philippines, away from city and technology. Because in the city snd wealthier families, class plays a role and formula feeding was a symbol of status) Comes from birth worker hilot lineage where Indigenous practices and plant medicines were centered and used even in the diaspora.
All babies homebirthed , all generations.

I know western perspective and colonization might have created a disconnect and misinformation with breastfeeding and caused family separation and trauma. Systematic oppression and racism plays a big role in accessibility and access to support.
Indigenous and cultural food ways is an important factor in nourishment and milk production.

These are just some quick shares. I share my journey because I have received so many negative comments on my lifestyle and discouragement from extended breastfeeding. But our personal journey is ours.

Ancestral Birth Ways
With May Salem @mamasoltribe
Weds. May 16th 7pm-9pm

Sharing Ancestral Birth Ways of my past, growth from my present, and hopes for the future.
Honored to be creating a beautiful safe space to talk about birth stories and my personal experience as a home birther and free birther. I had 5 amazing orgasmic (and pain free) birth experiences with all my children (last 3 unassisted) and hoping to share some insights around home births and my journey with all my pregnancies. I will also be sharing some of the natural birth wisdoms past through my family as generations of birth workers and medicines from my Ancestors. My intention is to create a space of empowerment surrounding birth and ways to possibly help guide or inspire your personal journey. I would love to share this space with you in ceremony and dialogue. Let's come together and re-discover our ancestral medicine from our unique backgrounds , share with each other, and build new narratives to pass down to our children / future gate keepers.
We will also be making herbal remedies / postpartum recipes inspired from my ancestral land of the Philippines. I am very honored and humbled for this opportunity to co-create with you all.
Space is limited.
Energy exchange : $20-$35 suggested donations via PayPal.me/NativeSol (no one will be turned away from lack of funds) •
This space welcomes expecting mamas/birthing person/partner supporter, future mamas/parents, birth workers, etc
•
Please bring a journal, pen, mug/cup, offering for the community altar that you can take back home (optional) •

3. Lingling-o (generic blanket term & name varies in different traditions ) is a Filipino / Austronesian symbol of life , fertility, protection, balance, divine feminine & masculine. This symbol is found all over the Philippines and Southeast Asia. Oldest surviving LingLing-o were made of nephrite jade from 500 BC . Northern tribes in the Philippines like the Ifugao, Bontoc, Kankaneay, and Kalinga had preserved this symbol and continued to be part of their traditions. I created this graphic to share the connection with the biology of a uterus. “Womb of the Earth”

9. Another pic of the Lingling-o with the bottom pure gold version found in Eastern Visayas 10th to 13th century.
10. This graphic by @iamhaizehawke of the Ankh inspired the Lingling-o version. For the longest time , I used to wear so many ankh necklaces and jewelry and was so drawn to it as well as Ancient Kemetic mystcisms and traditions that also brought me back to my Filipino healing arts traditions. Love seeing the two connections.
