🇬🇧 ANDEANRAID 2025 - PARTY AND ADVENTURE IN THE INCA ANDES This means cycling through the Andean highlands, a rollercoaster of ascents and descents, reaching mountain passes above 4,000 meters above sea level (Layo, 4,200; Parobamba, 4,000; Amparaes, 4,560; Lares, 4,460; and Málaga, 4,300). It also involves traversing the humid and hot rainforest, the winding paths along the Yanatile and Urubamba rivers, which are part of the Amazon basin. Finally, covering the last few kilometers in the Sacred Valley is a beautiful finale during Inti Raymi, the Inca New Year, the Inca festival in honor of the Sun God, Inti. #ultracyclingrace #ultraciclismo #ultracycling #ultraendurancecycling #bikepacking #cusco #peru #andes

@coffeesnack_abramalaga is the most wonderful summit oasis. After a night of climbing, there was no view. But there was a fire and coffee and hot cocoa and empanadas. Note the foot bags in the hot cocoa pic. 🤣 I could have stayed forever and joked about starting work there on Monday morning. The weather got worse before it got better. It was fun to hang out with @stephane_yunka, the race photographer for a while too. Eventually, I busted a move and headed out to the most ripping of paved descents. It twisted through a singletrack DH course and I tried to sneak some peeks. At the bottom, I had to send @indialandy a congrats for finishing her ride and drop all my layers, as temps warmed about 50 degrees. I hadn’t been to Ollantaytambo yet and I didn’t know about the ruins or the crowds. The course plopped off a bike path and right into the mayhem of it. Speaking of mayhem, despite having multiple working devices, all with accurate dates and time, I was convinced that Friday, not Saturday was the 28th and that the cutoff deadline was a mistake. Of course it was my mistake, but I was sure I was being gaslit. I’m a real dumdum sometimes. 🤦‍♀️ The traffic and dogs through the Sacred Valley were intense. I even used my pepper spray for the first time ever. A pack was getting too rowdy and I had no road to move into. A little shot was an effective deterrent. I was glad to have ridden the descent into Cusco multiple times before. It’s tricky in the daylight and in the dark, particularly exciting. Big thanks to @andeanraid for a wild route that showcased the jungle valleys to the alpines summits and the traverses connecting them throughout the Cusco region. Next time, I need to check out those DH trails!💕
