2017 - a few bucket list races and beginning the next chapter of life

I started the year with a trip to race a fat bike on the snow ! Thanks to Natalie Schneitter ( swiss XC champ) who I met after I raced XC team relay in 2011, we started to hang out when in Switzerland and I knew I had found my best adventure buddy....always up for any crazy adventure idea and with an XC background there was no shortage of fitness with our adventures ! Natalie invited me to this 3 day snow bike race...a very cold but fun experience !

I also continued to mix up some Multi day enduro - another trip back to Chile for Andes Pacifico and a trip to one of my all time favourite destinations - La Thuile - to introduce Hattie to the proper world of Enduro in the mountains !
Hattie was turning into quite the talent winning National titles in everything she did !

I continued to work for British Cycling as technical coach with the XC team and travelled to some races with them to help the riders learn the XC race courses. I also had the opportunity to introduce them all to some enduro racing to help improve their descending skills - Evie, Hattie, Meg and the start of Ella Connolly’s journey into enduro racing was here !!

T-MO racing was also expanding from XC and Enduro into DH - with a super talented Meg James taking a win at her first ever World Cup Junior DH race at Fort William
I returned to a DH bike for the first time since 2011 to be a course opener at the World Cup race 🙂

I had also always wanted to race the Downieville Classic - a true all mountain race where you race XC 26.5 milesone day and DH the next - but a proper XC with an hour climb and then a proper downhill of old skool stats - of 15miles downhill !
My long time suspension sponsor Fox and head of racing Mark Fitzimmons helped make the trip possible and James and I had an amazing time ...although I had just found out I pregnant at this point so didnt feel at my best with some altitude thrown in too !

Andes Pacifico, a 4 day trans race starting high in the Andes and finishing at the Pacific Coast. Ambassador Katie tells us of her journey from the rigid terrain of Chiles high mountains all the way to the salty sea (literally) at the Pacific Coast.

Read how Katie got on via our link in bio.

What an absolute insane time. The four days of racing the @andespacifico is an experience I won't ever forget. From hiking up gnarly rock sections on transfers to ripping fast and loose stages, the days had it all. Came to terms with the Chilean Anti Grip on day one with a decent crash. Started day two behind the eight ball, missing breakfast and dinner the night before as well. Really struggled to maintain a positive mental attitude, hike-a-biking up into the clouds and cooler temps to begin the day. I felt better after some adrenaline from the first stage on day two and carried that momentum through the rest of the week, building speed and climbing positions. Day three was a treat. A full shuttling day of bike park laps was welcomed after 10k+ of climbing. Day 4 was a mix of more flowy bike park and steep switch back trails before finishing with a blast down to the beach. So thankful I have such an incredible and supportive wife @loganashley96 to encourage me to tackle this event. Hopefully I'll get to return with @ihertzler for another go in the future. Also a huge thank you to @thebikeroost for the support and prep 🐔
