This property has a now 6️⃣ generation-long history dating back to the 1800s

Here’s the ~200 year story in a nutshell 😅....

In the late 1800s, Clarke Boyd and his wife Katherine (ne Morrison) built a dozen or so cottages on roughly 4 acres of waterfront land here in Port-Lewis, Québec.

My great great grandparents would cross the St Laurence by boat via Rivière-Baudette to spend summers here, for years staying in these cottages. Their son (my great grandfather) George and their 2 daughters, Olive and Doris eventually bought their own land / built their own cottages nearby.

(Gen 1 & 2)

My great grandparents George and Eva May had 4 daughters: Eva, Daisy (my grandmother), Olive and Irene. Just as their father had, my grandmother and her 3 sisters spent summers here from when they were children up until old age (Daisy died in 2011 at 100 years old.) The four Ward sisters, all teachers, were forces of nature to say the least. (See photos)

(Gen 3)

The Boyd property was eventually left to brothers, Gordie and Billy Boyd. Olive (my great aunt) and Gordie Boyd married (they had 4 children and many grandchildren who still spend their summers here). Daisy (my grandmother) and Billy Boyd dated for some time, but they eventually went on to marry others.

(Gen 3 cont.)

Daisy, married Russell Higgins, they had 4 children of their own who also spent summers here. Their children, my siblings and cousins, spent summers in a nearby cottage left to Daisy by her aunts. (That’s 5 generations for those keeping count.)

(Gen 4 & 5)

This same Boyd property was eventually divided between the 2 brothers. Billy's half, with 4 original cottages still standing, eventually belonged to his niece, who we bought it from in March 2021.

Our daughters are the 6th generation to spend their summers here in Port-Lewis. 💕
