We attended @akefestival 2025 and had the time of our lives, we met with some of our favourite authors and discovered new authors too.

In this new series #QuickAuthorsChat we sat down with @andiedavis18 and discussed all things #CaribbeanReads and her debut book #LetMeLiberateYou

📚
Synopsis

A restless New York artist searching for purpose returns to Barbados and stumbles into the role of activist in this scathingly funny and brilliantly observed satire about privilege, family discord, and performative do-gooding.
Dark, lanky, and bald, New York–raised photographer Sabre Cumberbatch can’t tell if she’s highly talented or just highly Instagrammable. Up to here with art critics and their gaseous praise, Sabre returns to Barbados, her childhood island home, to water her roots. She needs to quell self-doubt by doing something―anything―profoundly important.

📢STORY TIME!📢 🇹🇹 💔🇻🇪
A stone’s skip across the water from Venezuela, the fictional Trinidadian town of Pleasantview is the site of interlocking ills: poverty, violence, corruption, crime, and the sexual exploitation of Venezuelans fleeing to Trinidad in search of a better life. PLEASANTVIEW by @celestemohammed is an anthology of linked short stories about the town’s denizens. The first story, “Prologue: The Dragon’s Mouth (Bocas del Dragón),” captures with lyrical precision, humor and heart the tale of a Venezuelan woman and her jailbreaking Trinidadian lover. Join me at @center4fiction on June 3 to talk about the fraught state of Trini-Venezuelan relations through the lens of this modern classic. #caribbean #readcaribbean #venezuela🇻🇪 #trinidad

Just got back from @akefestival in Lagos 🇳🇬 Ake will always be one of my favourite literary gatherings. There’s a particular kind of brilliance it draws out of readers and writers alike.

Happy to have been back this year, and especially to have moderated the conversation with @iriscmwanza and @andiedavis18 Their books spark different fires but speak to each other in ways that felt electric in the room. What a joy!

Thank you @lolashoneyin & @bookbuzzng team for this gift! 💛
