Thank you to everyone who came to see our last exhibition, “The Giving Tree” 🌳 curated by Jill Dawsey. The exhibit includes 15 artists whose work celebrated the intelligence and generosity of trees. The exhibition offered an anti-tribute to the 1964 children’s book from which it takes its title. This was our most attended opening reception in 2026 and we are very grateful to the attendees, the artists, and Jill for bringing this show together. We have one more exhibition with the @prebysfound grant that we cannot wait to share with you. Please come this Saturday for our next opening reception from 4-7pm. We will see you there!

'A Kind of Paradise: Colonial-Era Photography in Contemporary Art' at Museum Rietberg is on for a couple more days I’m skeptical of the exhibition’s bold claim to be 'the first to comprehensively explore this phenomenon in global contemporary art'. That said, the works are great and so is the exhibition design. The 4 thematic chapters give the material a strong structure The exhibition looks at artists working with colonial-era photography and its afterlives, alongside the museum's own collection of photographs made in Africa & Asia in the late 19th & early 20th centuries 'Shapeshifters' looks at archival absence and artists creating their own archives where photographic histories are missing. 'Confrontation' addresses photography’s entanglement with colonialism and its role in constructing ideas of difference. here artists return to these images to dismantle their visual codes and tell other stories. 'Care' turns to images of exploitation and injustice, and artists respond through what the museum calls 'radical empathy'. 'In the Photo Fantastic' draws on Saidiya Hartman’s critical fabulation. Gaps in historical records are starting points for speculative narratives that give photographed subjects possibilities beyond what is preserved by the archive For me the exhibition makes sense when it stays close to the art instead of going for a sweeping historical first. Overall definitely worth catching before it closes though Was also really nice to see Yuki Kihara’s work again that I was first introduced to back in 2022 through an outstanding event by @vivian_ziherl at Kunstinstituut Melly Featuring: Sammy Baloji @baloji Raphaël Barontini @raphaelbarontini Mary Enoch Elizabeth Baxter @isisthasaviour Daniel Boyd @d_a_n_b_o_y_d Andrea Chung @andreachungstudio Omar Victor Diop @omar_viktor & Lee Shulman @lee.shulman Sasha Huber @sashahuber Yuki Kihara @yukikihara Cédric Kouamé @giftedmold.archives Dinh Q. Pra que serve uma visita guiada? Orientar melhor sobre a cidade? Otimizar o tempo?
