Exquisite Corpse, the storied avant-garde literary magazine edited by Andrei Codrescu, accepted an essay I sent to them, just as they were getting comfortable in the digital world (in "Cyber Corpse 2"), back in ancient times ... 1999. The essay concerned itself with Shakespeare, the Woody Allen film "Bullets Over Broadway," and art, and it explored the question central to that film: "If you can save either the last known copy of Shakespeare's works or a human being, which do you save?" The artists, including a wonderful Rob Reiner early on, give their answer: of course, you save Shakespeare. Rob Reiner's character: "Art Lives!" But the whole movie makes the ultimate opposite point, it's not the art, but the people who make it who matter. Wonderful stuff. My essay touches on art, its fragility, and the practical on technical challenges related to a VCR (now nearly forgotten technology), and the VCR remote--and the longing to control life with that remote. As I updated my website, I realized that my links to this essay (of which I am so proud and feel very honored to, in this way, be associated with the great journal and Mr. Codrescu) were not working when clicked on a mobile phone...but, mysteriously, were working when I clicked on the desktop. This got me panicked. I decided then and there, when I could see it, to screen-shot (or screen-shoot?) it all, before it disappears into the ether. Well, here it is...for the record. Have a read, if you're so inclined. And if you can't access the pictures, with the text on them, for technical reasons (probably the result of my faulty file prep), let me know, and I'll send you PDFs or the screenshots, the old fashioned way...by email.

That is excellent news.

But you don't need to wait for 2027 to get your @andrei.codrescu fix. What you can have right now is his latest book, NO DOG, published by Sacred Parasite and featuring poems and art* like you can find right there on page 16.

Sold out and amazing event last night. Our first Secret Horror Salon in New York City on October 7 — the day Edgar Allan Poe died. During the macabre night at the Bowery Poetry Club, Oscar nominated actor and horror icon Brad Dourif (Child’s Play, The Exorcist III, One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest) performed a surreal short story by Andrei Codrescu about his obsession with Poe’s grave and a shape-shifting snake. A poem about the mysterious death of Poe by Bob Holman, and reading of Poe’s poems by Claudia Handler and others. Live radio drama, “Androsphere,” which is set in an abandoned and haunted school by Luis Carlos Barragán, Melanconnie, and Faebian Ceruleo with voice over performances by Pete McElligott & Bryant Jager.‍ ‍All work produced exclusively for this event, and are world premieres. The night concluded with a psychic reading by renowned psychic medium Heather Carlucci.

Wed., October 7, 2026 at 7pm EST at Bowery Poetry Club, 308 Bowery, New York City.

Yesterday I sent these three on their way to the @mcrpoetrylibrary in England, where they will join @howiegood's The Dark and Howie Good's Akimbo, @john.dorsey.73's 100 Mornings, @ian.seed's My Outsize Hank Williams Cowboy Hat, and @williamminor50's two previous Sacred Parasite books.

(I just checked. Minor's excellent 2013 book, Pigeons and Pussy, published by @shearsmanbooks, is presently checked out as is the Sacred Parasite Ian Seed book. I love that!)

I was in @desirelinesbooks yesterday, Sacred Parasite's looking quite at home there, and I'm liking, on that shelf (pic 2), being perched next to some @typewronger goods, Edinburgh's Typewronger being one of SP's newest bookstore partners, thus connections upon connections, the uncomplicated kind, easy to celebrate.
