🎉 We’re honoured to share that the Vancouver Art Gallery’s collaboration with PaRx, an initiative of @bcparksfd, has received a 2025 Social Prescribing Changemaker Award from the Canadian Institute for Social Prescribing (CISP), a national collaborative anchored by @redcrosscanada. Founded in 2020, PaRx, Canada’s nature prescription, now has nearly 20,000 prescribers and has provided over 1.5 million prescriptions across Canada.

This national recognition highlights the impact of the Gallery’s Art of Wellbeing initiatives and the expanding role of arts, culture and nature in supporting community health.

As Interim Co-CEOs Sirish Rao (@sirishr) and Eva Respini (@curator_on_the_run) note: “A growing body of empirical medical research has revealed that exposure to art has multiple health benefits. To our knowledge, this partnership of a nature prescription program and an arts institution remains one-of-a-kind globally, and we are grateful to CISP for this award. National recognition like this highlights the Gallery’s growing relevance at the intersections of art, community and wellbeing.”

We would like to acknowledge the visionary support of the Dave and Pamela Richardson Family for their foundational investment in these initiatives.

We would also like to extend our gratitude to Paula Toledo (@odetowonder), the Gallery’s Lead Art of Wellbeing Consultant, BC Parks Foundation and Dr. Melissa Lem (@drmelissalem) for their ongoing collaboration and innovation.

🗞️ When your latest collaboration makes the front page of your hometown newspaper... 🎉

Proud to join forces with @drmelissalem and @bcparksfdn and be part of their PaRx program, highlighting how art and nature can support long-term health and wellbeing!

🌎 On Monday—World Health Day—the Gallery was delighted to launch the Art of Wellbeing lab, an ongoing series of pilot programs designed to make arts experiences accessible to individuals who stand to benefit the most.

As part of this initiative, the Gallery announced a new collaboration with BC Parks Foundation’s PaRx program—Canada’s national nature prescription program. We have been blown away by the support we have received so far from doctors and healthcare professionals in the room and beyond!

🌿 Starting this week, healthcare professionals can prescribe a visit to the Gallery’s Emily Carr room to support patients’ overall health and wellbeing. The Gallery will offer free admission to the PaRx patient and one optional guest, thereby fostering social connections while removing financial barriers.

🌱 The work at the Art of Wellbeing lab at the Vancouver Art Gallery is ongoing, and we are busy developing more initiatives. These programs will integrate insights from researchers, scientists, artists, physicians and Indigenous Elders and healers to create a sustainable model for arts-based wellbeing.

Support for the Art of Wellbeing lab is essential in making these programs accessible to everyone in our community.

Become a Gallery Member or consider making a donation today! You can help us sustain and grow initiatives like this one, ensuring that more individuals can experience the healing power of art.
