I recently connected with Andrew Sacher, who told me about his new book ‘Emo Revival: Community, DIY, and Rebirth in Post-Hardcore and Emo (2008-2018).’ Sacher had a lot to say, and his words only confirmed that emo will never be just a phase.

One of my favorite parts of the book comes at the end. Sacher writes, “A lot of the bands interviewed for this book very publicly tried to distance themselves from the word ‘emo’ at one point, but it doesn’t seem like any of them have an issue with the word now. So many of these bands agree that what genre they’re labeled matters so much less than the community they’ve fostered, and that community is an open-minded one that sticks with these bands and celebrates their growth.”

I’m an elder emo, so this book has a special place in my dark heart. If you’re an elder emo as well, or a young emo, this one might be for you too 🖤

Our full interview for @melodicmag is in my Linktree, in my bio. Enjoy 🙌

My 5* favorite albums that originally came out on the now-defunct No Sleep, which was one of the core labels of the era covered in my book, EMO REVIVAL.

@lilyseabird’s new album “Lightspheres on Their Way” is out now physically; available at your local record shop, from Lily on the road, and online via Lame-O.

The album won’t hit streaming until October 2nd, so for the next few weeks the record shop is the place to hear it.

Here are some thoughtful words on Lightspheres, plus a selection of shops where you can grab a copy now.
