What do you mean there’s no shade on the Cumberland Greenway?

How many times have you seen run slow to run fast?

This works for a while, but eventually your progress will plateau. So what do you do when you’re not seeing improvement?

The simplest answer is spend time running fast. Start small. Take the less is more approach.

My favorite way to sneak in speed work is to plug in strides at the end of an easy run. Strides are 20-30s intervals and they are a game changer for improving your speed.

Give it a shot and see if your running improves.

It’s the weekend, you’re out of gels, and you’ve got a long run on deck!

Don’t panic, I’ve got you.

Try these items when you’re in a pinch:

1. Nature’s bakery fig bar. Has 19g of carbs and travels pretty easily.

2. Bananas. Has about 25g of carbs, can still travel (maybe not well) and tastes great.

3. Soda. Has about 43g of carbs and can be kept in a cooler. I always bring a cooler on hot long run days. I can keep a bunch of snacks and liquid fuel for pit stops in my car. Just plan your route accordingly.

4. Ice cream. This is a great source of carbs before and after a long run. Remember, you’re burning carbs as fuel. If you’re running for 2+ hours you need to take in as many as possible. Don’t eat the whole pint, but a true serving of ice cream has about 50g of carbs. Not a bad option an hour before your run.

Leave a comment with your favorite non traditional fueling strategy!

Reaching helps retract the ribcage keeping it stacked over the pelvis. Finding proper alignment for foundational movements can be a game changer for many clients.

A few tips for this one:

1. Reach from the shoulders. Feel them wrap around the rib cage.

2. Focus on breathing. Be sure to take full exhales as you come up and feel your core like never before while squatting.

This drill comes directly from @tonygentilcore ‘s strategic strength workshop.
