Bringing timeless and innovative architecture to the Bay Area.
POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
When the owners of a Sonoma County retreat decided to make it a full-time residence, designer Carmen René Smithand architect Andrew Mann stepped in to help make the move permanent.

Smith even executed a series of moves that strike emotional notes, including installing overhead lights in the game room arranged in the constellations of each family member’s astrological sign. “My philosophy is about creating spaces that feel deeply personal, restorative and alive with meaning,” Smith explains.

A little BTS from Tree House Edge.

I don’t think I’ve ever left a photoshoot feeling quite like I did after this one.

There was just something about this group of people. Everyone was insanely talented, but there were no egos in the room. We listened to each other. Everyone got to have a voice. Someone would have an idea, someone else would make it better, we’d move something two inches, stare at it for too long, laugh a lot, and keep going.

And it was FUN.

I got to spend the day with the Andrew Mann Architecture team, our ridiculously talented stylist Mikhael, Gordon, and Brad behind the camera, and they’re not only incredible at what they do, they’re just really fucking solid people.

There is something very special about working with people who care deeply about the work but don’t need to make the room about themselves. Everybody respected what the other person brought to the table, and I think the photographs are better because of it.

By far the best energy I’ve ever experienced on a shoot.

I love these people. I love what we made together. And I would happily spend another very long day moving chairs around with all of them.

A little behind the scenes from one of my favorite days on Tree House Edge. #AquiloInteriors #TreeHouseEdge #InteriorDesign #BehindTheScenes #InteriorPhotography

There are moments in architecture when our work becomes about something much larger than the building itself.

After years of designing and building, our team had the extraordinary privilege of joining the Wat Khmer Kampuchea Krom community for the raising of the temple’s pinnacle. As monks, families, and community members gathered, the pinnacle rose into place. It was a profoundly moving moment, marking an important milestone in the creation of this sacred space that will preserve the community’s faith and traditions for generations to come. We are deeply grateful to play a part in bringing this extraordinary place to life.

Part V of our blog series, A Buddhist Temple Rises in the Bay Area, is now on our website. Link in bio.

Hand model: Salad Fingers edition. 😹

(If you don’t know the reference, you need to look it up. He is the best.)

Anyway… OH WOW!!

There is something very surreal about finally holding this one in my hands.

This house took years, approximately eleven billion decisions, a lot of love, a little insanity, and so many tiny details that will probably only ever be fully known by the people who made it.

Seeing this world we created in the pages of @luxemagazine feels very, very special. And having our project on the COVER of the September/October issue is just absolutely splendid. Like… excuse me?! Our little world is on the cover of LUXE. 🥹

OH WOW WOW WOOOOOOW!

Thank you @luxemagazine @maryjbowling and @jilleditsluxe for recognizing this project and giving our work a home in these pages. It means so much. Thank you @desert.ren for writing such a wonderful article!!

So naturally, I celebrated by hand modeling next to our pages in the magazine as weirdly as possible and saying “wow” repeatedly. It’s what I do when I’m a Mrs Happy pants!

Very chic. Very Weird. Very me 😉
Check out our website to see the rest of the home! So much more to see!!!
