Meet Andy (She/Her) she is an artist who likes to dabble in anything creative, she tattoos, paints murals, draws, makes paper mache…the list goes on!

We asked Andy what style means to her, she said, “I always think about how you can’t choose a lot about how you look, but you can choose what you want to do with your body, and that includes dressing and accessorizing! As a queer person at times I felt like I had to look outside the norm like having baby bangs in order to “look queer” but then I just embraced dressing however I want - be it baggy and masculine or frilly and feminine. My identity is more personal to me. I like to mix casual and dressy. It feels fun to push different stylistic aspects like leather mixed with sheer fabric or silk. Having tattoos and dressing up also feels like a fun juxtaposition, even though i often forget that I have tattoos, they’re such a part of me now. As I get older I never want to stop playing with fashion. Most of my clothes are thrifted but I have a few items that are created by smaller designers, as I want to support other artists. I like having unique and one of a kind pieces, getting things for cheap and hemming or repairing them. I think being queer and having personal style both push societal norms and allow me to feel free in who I am”.

In Andy’s message to her younger self she shares that “anything is possible, you don’t have to be limited” and that echos her statement on style. Andy embraces the permission for play and be creative and experiment. She compares style to sexuality in the fact that it is fluid and ever changing.

It was so much fun meeting Andy, and thank you for sharing your thoughts with us on style for QUEERBOOK xo
