ENUF - Demo 1988, released on 7” vinyl by @radioraheemrecords.

This one has been in the works for ages and has finally seen light of day. I for one am super stoked to see it get out there. The ENUF demo has been a long time essential part of my personal Mt. Rushmore of New Jersey Straight Edge classic demos, right up there with Turning Point and Release. As a matter of fact, this demo easily sits in my all time top 10 list of hardcore demos, it’s really that good.

My introduction to ENUF was by walking in to the November 5th 1988 Scott Hall show where they opened for Life’s Blood, Vision and BOLD. I had never heard of them, walked in, saw them playing and they instantly caught my attention. I pulled out my camera and snapped off the two color photos in this post. Although not particularly great photos, I’m glad I’ve held on to them all these years.

Interestingly enough, when Tony Rettman and I were doing Common Sense fanzine, we interviewed ENUF for our first issue. Tony and I liked the demo so much, we pitched the idea of starting a record label and doing a 7” for ENUF as our first release. Either Ari or Andy from the band sent us a track that they recorded after the demo, it had a very heavy Absolution sound, something a little different from the demo. We liked it and really wanted to do a 7” for them, but they broke up before it ever happened.

All these years later, it’s a little surreal holding an ENUF 7” in my hands, but I’m just happy to see them finally immortalized on vinyl.

My guitartist friend Andy does this thing every once in a while where he goes live on IG and plays an hour of very pretty, bugged out music that he makes by kneeling down and tweaking (basically “playing”) his distortion pedals. He has a supernatural ability to always do this just as my edibles are kicking in, and I zone out hard (as if listening to Chico Debarge).
