Domestic violence is an issue all year around but for personal reasons it hits home a little harder this time of the year. It’s such an important topic that nobody really talks about today, but so many women (and men) suffer from it daily. It’s four years ago since I won against my ex in court. I think this is the first year I can actually say that I’ve fully healed, although I’ll never forget. He used to kick me out of our home because he thought I was breathing too heavy, only to call me a few hours later to say that he had calmed down and I could come home again. I knew that if I had to work late he’d be so angry when I came home. I found him with another woman in our bed one day and both of them just smiled at me when I walked into the room. One day I woke up by him dragging me by my feet out of our bed because something had made him upset while I was asleep. He woke me up several times by throwing all of my belongings on the floor only to storm out and go to work as if nothing happened. I hid the kitchen knives because I was so scared he’d try to kill me one day.
The only reason I talk about this on here is because you need to know that you’re not alone. It’s nothing to be ashamed of and it’s NOT. YOUR. FAULT. Please believe me when I say there is a way out and it WILL get better once you leave. It will take time but you will get through it. You’ve fought so long for him, it’s time to fight for you now. Your peace of mind.
And please check in on your friends and family. Just because they don’t come straight to you or because they post cute photos of their partner on social media it doesn’t mean that they’re OK. Make them feel seen. Make it known that you really care.

I don’t need you to pity me, please don’t, I’m good. Just promise to take care of yourselves and always put yourself first. ♥️
