Thankful for family and elastic waistbands. Ended the evening trying to explain Serpico to a 10-year old. đŸ€ŠđŸ»â€â™€ïž #grateful #elasticpants #serpico #otisvirgil #family #thanksgiving2025 #missingdad #virgil

Otis had his recital on Sunday and played like a tiny, charismatic old soul who’s been doing this for decades. No nerves, no hesitation
just pure vibes. He somehow lights up every room he walks into
even when he’s supposed to wait his turn which requires PATIENCE 👏. Proud doesn’t even begin to cover it. đŸŽč✹ Thank you to his incredible teacher - @mickytorpedo @undergroundsquirrelstudio and to our friends at the @thenorwegianrockford for continuously hosting one of my favorite events of the year with some of my favorite people at my favorite restaurant in town:) #otisvirgil #undergroundsquirrelstudio #thenorwegianrockford #liveinyourjoy #chicagoactor #pianorecital #beautifulboy

Otis was born with a very rare syndrome. His life has been hundreds of specialist appointments in Chicago and Madison, surgeries, therapies, tutoring, and thousands of hours of advocacy. For years, I blamed myself. The Prozac I took. My age. The drinks before I knew I was pregnant. The mammogram and biopsy. The fast food french fries (on the daily😳). The candles. The sugar. The bug spray. The weed killer. The room spray. The detergent. The water. The GMOs and non organic foods. The shower gel. My perfume. The sleep aids. MYSELF. But Otis was born to be exactly who he is. To teach me. To teach Dave. To teach the world. Families raising autistic kids know the same truth: these kids are not born this way because their mothers took an over the counter pain reliever deemed safe by doctors and scientists and YEARS of studies and testing. These kiddos are extraordinary teachers, beautiful humans who deserve to be celebrated — not scapegoated. And yet
here we are. Politicians pushing junk claims that Tylenol “causes autism.” Leaders pointing fingers at parents while giving passes to the real dangers: corruption, predators, and the people in power who protect them while tightening their grip with authoritarian control. To every parent who has fought tooth and nail for their autistic child — I see you. I honor you. I stand with you. We won’t let disinformation, hate, or political games erase your love or your work. Spread kindness and love. Not disinformation. Not hate. If we want to fight for something real, let’s expose the pedophiles, predators, and bullies who hide behind power — not the children who were born to light up this world. #autism #specialneedskids #disinformation #cruelcountry #cleftlipandpalate #kindness #doctors #science #jefftweedy #wilco #fightfordemocracy✊ @jefftweedy @wilco

Finally grabbed some overdue time with my favorite little human, Otis. We celebrated PRIDE, ate snacks like it was our job, and soaked up every second of just being. He reminded me (again) that joy is loud, love is brave, and you’re never too cool to dance in public. 🌈💛 We met up with old friends and found some new ones along the way—because Otis never met a stranger he didn’t charm. Grateful for his light, his laughter, and the way he moves through the world with so much heart. Happy PRIDE, friends—may we all love as boldly as Otis does. #PrideWeekend #OtisJoy #momlife #LoveIsLove #myminime #Pride2025 #MamaAndOtis #liveinyourjoy #lovesomeonetoday

The studio logo. I began teaching music lessons from our original location in 2006. The space was literally underground in an old limestone-walled basement. In 2009 I acquired my first recording rig and within a couple years I was working 6-7 days a week in that space, teaching lessons and recording bands. It was time we had a legit name so I came up with Underground Squirrel Studio. My lifelong appreciation of squirrels, coupled with the limestone walls inspired me, also the fact the name didn’t exist on the internet. I reached out to the legendary @andywhorehall for a logo and he responded with 20-30 to choose from. Some were playful, some demented (I remember a squirrel with a wooden peg leg and a gold tooth? Hahaha) but this one stole my heart. It’s fun, sweet, playful and perfectly represented the inner creative child I wanted to cultivate in this space. In 2014 Karl Torpedo and I purchased our current location and we have appreciated anonymity in the neighborhood until now. Thanks to the neon master, @neon_baphomet Jason Gough at @themcpherson815, the screaming (or singing? You decide) squirrel glows purple for the world to see. I hung it this week and it’s officially a hit! Everyone who sees it loves it. I can’t thank you guys enough. Cheers! micky

Patience isn’t something we’re born with - at least not me or my offspring😂. It’s something we choose, practice, and grow into — every single day. Thank you, Otis for the soft display of PATIENCE and PRACTICE. You inspire me. #otisvirgil #cleftstrong #pianorecital #momlife #familyperformers #chicagoactors #heygang @theheygang @thenorwegianrockford @undergroundsquirrelstudio

Always so proud of Odie. HOT CROSS BUNS. And I can’t get it out of my brain. You always think the song is going to do something different - you WANT it to do something different. But it just can’t. It just can’t. HOT. CROSS. BUNS. undergroundsquirrelstudio @thenorwegianrockford #otisvirgil #HOTCROSSBUNS #cleftstrong #momlife #musicislove #undergroundsquirrelstudio
