Ann Saffi Biasetti, PhD - “Your Body Never Meant You Any Harm: A Somatic Guide to Forgiving & Healing Your Relationship with Your Body” - Ep. 3165

“Your body longs for the same things your mind longs for: ease, steadiness, peace, stability, homeostasis, safety, security, connection, and most of all, belonging.

Your body has always been there to teach you the opposite of what you may feel toward it. It is here to teach you about forgiveness, compassion, and connection. Women, by nature, are connectors. We thrive on community and connection—with ourselves, our bodies, and one another. You are not meant to embark on this journey alone.”

Dr. Biasetti is the creator of the Befriending Your Body Program, a somatic, self-compassion-based recovery program for disordered eating, and the author of Befriending Your Body: A Self-Compassionate Approach to Freeing Yourself from Disordered Eating, and The Awakening Self-Compassion Card Deck: 52 Practices for Self-Care, Healing, and Growth.

Dr. Biasetti consults and lectures extensively on somatic psychotherapy, embodiment, polyvagal theory, and interoceptive awareness in the context of disordered eating and eating-disorder recovery.

Additionally, she serves as an instructor with the Center for Mindful Body Awareness and the Self-Compassion in Psychotherapy (SCIP) Program.
A featured Professional Education Systems Institute (PESI) presenter, Dr. Biasetti has appeared on multiple podcasts and trains professionals through the Befriending Your Body (BFYB) somatic certification training program.

Dr. Biasetti maintains a private therapy and consultation practice based in Saratoga Springs, New York, where she integrates mind-body modalities to facilitate holistic healing and personal growth. On any given day you can find her practicing and teaching yoga and meditaion in her community and enjoying her family, friends, nature, animals, music, and embodied living.

What if compassion is something our bodies are already practising for us?

When something hurts, our response can be immediate. A hand reaches toward the place in pain before we have even consciously decided what to do. One part responds to another with attention, protection, and care.

There is something powerful in recognizing that instinct, especially when illness or pain has made it difficult to feel trusting or connected to ourselves. Compassion does not always have to begin as a thought or something we convince ourselves to feel. Sometimes we can notice the ways it is already happening within us.

In this conversation, Ailey and Dr. Ann Saffi Biasetti ( @anembodiedlife ) explore chronic illness, body forgiveness, medical gaslighting, self advocacy, and what it can mean to remain in relationship with ourselves through pain, uncertainty, and change.

Did you catch last week’s episode of Sparking Wholeness?

Dr. Ann Saffi Bassett, author of Your Body Never Meant You Any Harm, joined me to explore what it means to reconnect with your body after years of disconnection.

Together, we discuss the disembodied culture most of us grew up in, why interoception (the ability to sense what’s happening inside your own body) is a skill that can be relearned, the difference between hunger and “food noise,” what GLP-1 medications might be doing to the body’s natural hunger and desire signals, why menopause is a high-risk window for eating disorder resurgence, and how body disconnection often starts as a protective response, not a flaw.

This is the kind of “get to the root” type of conversation I created a podcast for 7 years ago, and I’m so grateful for Ann’s voice in this space!

We live in a culture that values the mind over the body’s sensing experience. We treat the body as something to sculpt, fix, and control, from how it looks to how it performs.

In Episode 357 of Sparking Wholeness, Dr. Ann Saffi Biasetti (somatic psychotherapist and author of Your Body Never Meant You Any Harm) explains why body disconnection isn’t a personal failure. It’s what happens when you grow up in a world that was never built to help you stay connected to your body in the first place.

We come into the world fully embodied, sensing and feeling beings. Somewhere along the way, most of us get taught not to trust that.
This episode brings so much hope and encouragement for those of us reconnecting to our bodies after living in survival mode.

PERU 2027 | SEPTEMBER 29 – OCTOBER 10 🇵🇪

Join us for an unforgettable journey through a land of ancient history, breathtaking landscapes, vibrant culture, and a little bit of magic!

Our adventure begins with 2 nights in Lima, exploring the beautiful Miraflores neighborhood, Pacific coastline, incredible food, and fascinating history.

Then we travel into the heart of the Andes for 6 glorious nights at a gorgeous retreat center in Peru’s Sacred Valley. Surrounded by mountains, gardens, and ancient Inca history, we’ll have time to explore local villages and markets, visit incredible archaeological sites, enjoy spa treatments, stargaze, relax…and simply slow down and take it all in.

We’re also thrilled to have Ann Biasetti co-hosting this journey! Ann will offer optional morning and evening therapeutic yoga practices incorporating restorative yoga, myofascial release, mindfulness, and somatic practices—all designed to help us feel grounded, energized, restored and deeply connected throughout our time in Peru.

And then…Machu Picchu!

We’ll explore Ollantaytambo before boarding the scenic train to Machu Picchu Pueblo for 2 nights, giving us time to experience this extraordinary place without rushing. We’ll rise early for our sunrise visit to Machu Picchu, exploring its history, legends, mysteries, and incredible beauty with our expert guide.

Our journey concludes in Cusco, the ancient capital of the Inca Empire, followed by a special final dinner together.

This is more than a trip to Peru. It’s an opportunity to explore, learn, laugh, connect, restore, and experience one of the most extraordinary places on Earth together!
