Our featured poet of Issue 6 is Veronica Tucker, with four of her poems being included in this special, themed issue.

Veronica brings a unique perspective to this issue. As an emergency medicine physician, she sees firsthand the consequences of the normalized violence taking place in our communities. Her poetry is a lens into what this entire issue is about - the result of systemic inequity and oppression.

In Veronica's four poems within Issue 6, she talks about the challenges of needing to constantly mentally and emotionally transition between the softness of motherhood and the crises she often sees in the emergency room. She does an outstanding job of making the reader see the reality of gun violence, abuse, and inequity through the eyes of the person who is expected to routinely bandage the victims of a hemorrhaging system.

You can read all four of Veronica's poems, as well as the interview between Veronica and our Interview & Feature Writer, Angela Heiser, in Issue 6 of wildscape., which can be read in its entirety for free on our website (wildscapelit.com/issue-6-may-2026 // or you can just click the direct link in our bio!).

We are currently accepting submissions in all genres (poetry, flash fiction, flash creative nonfiction, and art) for Issue 8 of wildscape through August 15th! All submission guidelines can be found on the "submit" page of our website (direct link to that page is also in our bio).

And all the rest of the 2026 Dublin Poetry Workshop. Left a bit of my ♥️ most definitely on this campus and these streets. And with these lovely poets. I said on the first gathering evening that my wish for their cohort was that it be as magical as mine have been for 5 years running, and that they make the kind of life-long friends I have been so grateful to make. (Had to add my bestie @spushawbyers in there from previous years!!) And of course to @seaniepoet —my dearest friend and co-leader. “If I should become a stranger, well then it would make me more than sad, Caledonia you’re everything I’ve ever had…” Dublin is my Caledonia!! 🇮🇪

So many serendipitous moments this year— including running into my old friend and novelist Colum McCann after seeing his pic in the MOLI! 🤩🤷‍♀️🥂

Special shout out to the @poetry_stroll as this was such a highlight of our time!!! 👏 Please let me know if I missed tagging you. 🥺🥂

Enjoy a selection of photos from our recent Sam Ragan Awards Day. Photo credit for many of the photos goes to Bill Griffin. Thank you, Bill!

We had a packed audience during the Sam Ragan Awards Day 2026 at the Weymouth Center for the Arts and Humanities. We want to thank all of the poets, families, friends, and listeners that came out to support our Award winners! The day kicked off with a showcase of readings from the winners of this year’s Pinesong Youth Awards.

After lunch, we had a showcase of readings from the winners of this year’s Pinesong Adult Awards. Additionally, we were honored to have a performance of a group of youth poets from Carrboro, the CHS Poetic Justice League, at this year's awards ceremony! To read the award-winning poetry, please check out Pinesong: The North Carolina Poetry Society’s Annual Anthology of Contest Winners on our website at the link in our bio!

#poetryisnotdeadyet #supportpoets #poetrycommunity my grandmother was cursed
marked by demon wishes
whispered at daybreak
decades upon decades ago

my mother accepted
this tainted inheritance
without knowing its ramifications
only conceding—
the women in this family are witches

This year was, well…..chaotic, to put it simply. One of the things that kept us tethered to our humanity was the books we spent our time reading. So without further ado, here’s our favorite books that we read in 2025. What’s been your favorite read this year?

I also want to take a moment to show my love for @sarahbooradley - Sarah has been a reader for us since March of this year. Today is her last day with wildscape, and I couldn’t be more grateful for all she’s done for this magazine. You are a gift, Sarah, and we will always be rooting for you from afar! ❤️

Please allow me the honor of presenting to you wildscape’s most wonderful reading team 🥹

To say I’m lucky to have them would be an immense understatement - this group right here has helped to make wildscape what it has become. They’ve been on-board since we opened submissions for Issue 3 (aka since early March), and I’m so proud of all we’ve done together, as a team.

To my beautiful, magical team: I love you guys so much. Thank you for being here, and for supporting my crazy ideas and long-winded thoughts. I truly could not do this without you all. Working with each of you has been better than I could have ever imagined. Thank you, thank you, thank you. ❤️
