𝗞𝗜𝗦𝗦 𝗠𝗘 𝗚𝗢𝗢𝗗𝗕𝗬𝗘 (𝟮𝟬𝟭𝟲) is in the running at the @prevostreaming Summer Film Showcase, and voting is open now.

This is the oldest film I have in the Showcase, and honestly the one that made me who I am.

Over 10 years ago now I was in Pittsburgh with no real idea what I was doing. I convinced a room full of people to help me raise $30,000 to shoot a dystopian short on 16mm celluloid, at a time when everyone was moving as far away from film as possible. It was a swing. Most of them had no reason to believe in it except that they believed in each other.

Is the film perfect? No. I was young and there is a lot in it I would do differently now. But I watch it back and I am genuinely impressed by who I was during that production. Fearless. Collaborative. Willing to ask for help and willing to be wrong in front of people.

That was the Pittsburgh indie scene. Everyone showed up for everyone. Nobody was getting paid what they were worth and it never once mattered.

When I moved to LA I learned a hard lesson that I am still sitting with: the people who show up first are the people you should carry with you through your entire career. I wish I had been a better leader in the years after this. I wish I had held onto more of what we built. To everyone who stood beside me on this one, thank you from the bottom of my heart. Nothing has ever hit quite the same.

My birth month always goes hard.

Had a great time with my parents and nephew at the Science Center yesterday! I took them to see NFL Films “The Football Town” movie which is playing on the IMAX screen! I was part of the drone team assisting Nick Lang Media on two days this past fall while the project was being filmed. If you go watch the movie, there are two scenes to look out for. The one is in the beginning of a High School Football game at Cupples Stadium in Southside and the second shot is later in the film outside of St Mary’s of the Mount in Mt Washington.

Being a part of the drone team and getting the opportunity to contribute to this project is something I will never forget! I look forward to more opportunities like this one and can’t wait to hear what others think of the film.
