Meet 2021 HYI graduate AJ, who lives on O’ahu, Hawaii. We asked him: 🔹How are things going since graduation? 🔹And what was your biggest highlight from YTT? “Since graduating HYI, I finally realized what Yoga really is and it’s relationships with others. The most important one is with yourself. I’ve been loving myself a little more, being patient with myself, and observing my own habitual patterns, so with that being said things are going very well. I feel more alive & authentic ☺️ Today I began Mindful Resilience Training for Trauma Recovery ❤️‍🩹 and we went over compassion fatigue and meditations (body scan, mantra, and deep breathing where we focused on exhales). After going over meditation, I immediately thought of HYI. My biggest highlight from HYI training was learning that how we practice on the mat is how we are off the mat. And that’s so true. How we breathe on our mat is how we breathe off the mat. “Stay for the exhale.” ✨ Staying for the exhale and fully exhaling allows us to be calmer and mindful. Being more patient on the mat and being more mindful of the sensations I’m feeling and not reacting and just allowing that feeling to flow through like a wave in a ocean has allowed to me react less and listen and be more present in life. The time I’ve spent on my yoga mat has helped me tremendously with my nervous system and I want to thank Hawaii Yoga Institute, Kilty, Sona, and all yogis world wide for what they do and contribute to this planet. Peace, Love, Namaste 🙏🏾💓🕉” AJ is a passionate yogi who offer group and private sessions. If you’re curious to practice and connect with him, reach out directly on here @aj.wendall
