September Practice Day had an improved entry practice layout that was more beginner-friendly but still allowed advanced drivers to get speed for dem flicks.

We also got to see some new / upgraded machines, including @kat_carreras with his freshly built KAT, @aaronspandora with more power, and @j_fargher debuting his wagon. Congrats yall!

Here’s the deal, dad’s got dementia. It sucks. I could talk about how much it sucks till I’m sobbing. But I’m not. The good news is; when he was bright, young, goofy and chipper, he kept some photos, took a lot of notes and basically laid out the story of his short but somewhat sweet career as a NASCAR Coors beer late model stock car racer. All this history written down on a few pieces of paper, a hand written sponsor me pitch sent to KFOG after he fumbled the bag on the phone. The other as very short summaries scribbled onto a piece of paper in his own (and my favorite) handwriting.

He never won a feature, he led some laps, had a few top 5s, a bunch of top 10s, and an insane amount of starts during a 4 year tear with himself and his buddy Gordon Carlson at the wheel. SR-22 racing team was a grassroots mid pack menace of a program that operated out of a garage at the end of the street. They raced Watsonville Speedway on Fridays, San Jose Speedway on Saturday and Baylands Raceway Park on Sundays with the occasional Antioch Speedway on Sunday. At their peak attending over 30 races a year.

I’ve gone through his racing photo album with him many times over the years and a couple of his folders of various documents but finally took them home one day and sorted through them.

I’ve been reaching out to his old buddies, crew guys, friends, chassis builder, even his fellow competitors who are still racing 40 years later to put some of the puzzle together for dad’s racing story because he is no longer able to remember most details. Every pixel you see in this collage has been scanned from his photo album or documents he kept and has been arranged beautifully by @anglesey without me knowing. What a fantastic surprise.

Ive told myself I’m gonna buy hobby stock for next season, if you have an old leafer Camaro hobby stock car laying around, bang my line. We’re still trying to figure out who ended up with dad’s car, to my knowledge it was sold in its blue scheme to a man in Washington in 1989. That’s all we think we know. Anyways, see you at the track.
