Today's #weldershowcase goes out to @angry_anvil_forge

For the full interview, check out the "this week's welder showcase" link in our bio!

Name: David Sanders
Business Name: Angry Anvil Forge
Location: Virginia Beach, Chesapeake Virginia
Socials: IG: @angry_anvil_forge
FB: @theangryanvilforge
TikTok: @angryanvilforge
YouTube: Angry Anvil Forge
Specialties: I can do just about everything welding wise. When it comes to my welding I like to keep a creative mind. Welding is an art form no matter what you are working on.

Tell us about yourself - what inspired you to get into your trade? And how long?
I started taking an interest in working with metal in middle school. I used to work with my uncle on little projects and found it very interesting the way he worked on things. Later when I was in Highschool I took 4 years of trade school which was comprised of two years of drafting and two years of welding. After High School I began my 20 year career in the Navy as a Hull Maintenance Technician and Shipfitter. Out of the 3 Navy weld schools I attended for my rating, I graduated as an Honor Graduate an average of two weeks ahead of the class I started out with. Around my 10 year mark in the Navy I started taking interest in blacksmithing and messing around with making metal artwork. In 2014 I started the Angry Anvil Forge and made artwork, custom fabrication projects and welding repairs on the side. I retired from the Navy in 2016 then started working for a custom sign company. I wasn't happy with the job there so I quit and started working for myself full time with the Angry Anvil Forge. All in all I have about 30 years of experience with metal working. I will say I don't know it all but I will try to learn something new each day.

Stoopid excited re this!!! Here is one of two RAD gates we made for @prisonhillbrewco with lots of help from @aztechigh and @eoccharter over the last two months!!! So cool!

History behind the Dark Cell… the US had only 2 territorial prisons: one in Arizona and one in Wyoming. The @yumaterritorialprison was home to many dangerous criminals between 1876 and 1909… including several who escaped by slitting the warden’s throat. 😳 The Dark Cell was their solitary confinement. It was rumored that prison guards would, on occasion, drop snakes down the little hole at the top of the rock cell that let in the only light. If you look closely, this gate handle *may* resemble a snake. 🤔

Ringing in the New Year with hammers, singing anvils, families, friends… Way to smash away 2021 and welcome in a new chapter of life! #newyearseve #overnightcamp

May #2022 bring so much more joy & happiness than you are even asking for. 💜

It’s too bad this video can’t play two tracks simultaneously… the 9 second “dance” portion here had George Ezra’s “Shotgun” playing at full volume. 🤣

Thank you to all who believe in the Weld Like A Girl™️ mission. We super appreciate you. And, we promise not to let you down in 2022! We have something CRAZY AMAZING planned to empower and inspire people! (We might even ignite the spark to create future #skilledtrades people.)

@irondemonforge you need to come play next year!

Kids Camp 1: PIZZA 🍕🍕

GMAW (MIG welding)
PAC (plasma arc cutting)
SMAW (stick welding)
Oxyacetylene rosebud
chop saw
4 1/2” angle grinder
metal bender

WOW! That’s a LOT to pack into two days over winter break! Great kids, great pizzas and edible pizza to eat in celebration!

Ages 8, 9 & 10!!! 😎

Dental Advisory: Although these are high in iron, 4 out of 5 dentists DO NOT recommend eating this 5 lb slice of metal pizza. (The 5th dentist is looking forward to your tooth repair. 🤣🤪🤣)

When metal is in your soul, heat colors come through. It’s not “crazy hair”… it’s temper colors. 🔥

Thanks to @projectmfg competitors for letting me take selfies in their booths. 😎 Can’t wait to see Clash of Trades, episode 2 on YouTube Dec 8!

Www.makeitfrommetal.com: [color] allows us to know how hot a piece of steel has become while exposed to the oxygen that's normally in air. The hotter the steel gets, the thicker this oxide layer becomes. This means that different wavelengths of light are either muted or amplified, thereby changing the color of the steel.

To find the actual temper color chart, visit https://www.anvilfire.com/21st-century-blacksmithing/temper-colors/

Oh, and of course tganks to @hairbykelsea14 for helping us connect with our inner temper. 😉

Hmmm… wonder what Weld Like A Girl™️ is up to? Here are a few pics to get your mind whirling.

Hint: it involves 2 local high schools, 6 bags of Quikrete, 4 sheets of 16 gauge steel, 2 pounds of ingenuity, 5 hinges, 2 levels, 3 tape measures, 2 plasma cutting machines and ultimately 2 well-known local artists. (Say that fast!)

@eoccharter and @aztechigh are doing a GREAT job on this build! They are using quality industry tools from @hypertherminc (thank you once again for the 2019 Spark grant 😎) @miller_welders @pferd_na @dewalttough as well as a host of others.

#level #plumb #square #centered #balanced … #thestruggleisreal people!

Can’t wait to see the next steps. Spoiler alert: there’s going to be a bunch of math and measurements coming soon! (That algebra teacher and that tough geometry teacher were SO right! We DO use this everyday!)

Blacksmithing 101 was a smashingly good time! Hammering out metal kinks, frustrations, and all sorts of other details, this group did not get bent outta shape. In fact, no one lost their temper from having too many irons in the fire. 🔥 🤪 🔥

OK, bad metalsmithing puns notwithstanding, this was such a fun group of motivated people interested in reconnecting with old-school skills. We can’t wait to see what’s next!
