Last night was a wonderful night to celebrate the arts at art night @hickokcole - I’m so honored to be included.

Every fall @hickokcole partners with @wpadc to host Art Night, a juried art show and benefit of 90 plus local artists with proceeds going to further Washington Project for the Arts. It is a yearly event that continues to support and raise funds for the amazing creative art scene in Washington D.C and, most importantly , to keep the arts alive and strong in this city!

All the pieces from the show are up and for sale (while supplies last!) on their virtual gallery. Link to gallery is in my bio. You can also head over to @hickokcole Instagram page to learn more. Sales will continue until Thursday, October 23rd at 6:30pm.

Two of my framed pieces , Lone Cypress One, Lake Marion and Lone Cypress Two, Lake Marion are available for purchase in the virtual gallery.

50% of the proceeds go back to the arts community! This is a great opportunity to start your personal collection and even give local art as holiday gifts this season

The starting point for this project was a large, vacant lot with no significant natural features, views or vegetation, located in a suburban neighborhood in Northeastern United States. The exterior material palette is selected in accordance with the eclectic mix of materials found on the houses, fences, and privacy walls prevalent throughout the neighborhood. These include roman brick, FSC mahogany siding, slate siding, and Grafton marble.

We’re honored to share that our Urban Woodland House has received a 2026 International Architecture Honorable Mention Award from The Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture & Design and The European Centre for Architecture Art Design and Urban Studies, in the Private Homes category.

The Urban Woodland House explores the relationship between modern residential architecture and its natural surroundings, thoughtfully integrating contemporary design, materiality, and landscape.

We’re grateful to see this project recognized on an international stage.

What makes a home feel instantly calm, comfortable, and welcoming? It may have less to do with the way a room looks—and more to do with how it makes you feel.

From natural light and furniture scale to texture, acoustics, and how you move through a space, thoughtful interior design can quietly shape everyday life. The most successful homes are designed around the people who live in them, not simply around a particular aesthetic.

In our latest article (link in bio), we explore the psychology of home design and the details that can turn a beautifully designed house into a home that genuinely feels like yours.

The best mornings start the same way — with the quiet ritual of that first cup of coffee, before the day asks anything of you.

Today, on International Coffee Day, we're thinking about the small design decisions that make that moment feel intentional, not rushed. A coffee machine in the primary suite. A serving area tucked into a butler's pantry. Open shelving that puts a favorite mug within easy reach. A coffee station tucked behind cabinetry, ready when you are and hidden away when you're not.

It's a small detail in the scope of a whole-home design — but it's exactly the kind of detail we mean when we talk about emotional architecture. The spaces we move through every day shape how we feel long before we consciously notice why.

Swipe to see a few coffee bars we've designed—each built around how our clients actually start their mornings.

Ease. Craftsmanship. Comfort. Quiet confidence.

This month, each of these homes showed us a different side of The New Luxury. None of them rely on excess. Their beauty comes from careful planning, lasting materials, and rooms designed around how the people who live there want to feel.

As we move into October, we’ll carry that thinking forward into The Art of Editing, and why what you leave out matters just as much as what you bring in.

Which home from this month stayed with you?

The finished living area flows effortlessly from the kitchen into two well-defined conversation spaces, anchored by an octagonal room that serves as a dining nook — one of the home’s quietest, most distinctive architectural details. Soft, coastal-inspired colors carry through every room, never competing with the view of the Miles River just outside.

This is quiet confidence in its truest form: nothing here is trying to impress you. It simply does.

What is one room in your home that feels effortlessly right, without a single loud detail in it?

“We leaned into a palette of soft colors to create a backdrop that feels relaxed yet elevated,” Tracy told Home & Design Magazine about this St. Michaels home.

That balance is the whole idea behind quiet confidence: nothing in the room is shouting for attention, yet nothing feels unfinished either. The most sophisticated spaces I design are rarely the boldest ones. They are the ones that feel effortless because every choice, however quiet, was made on purpose.

Not every whole-home project begins that way.

This one started with a simple request: help selecting tile and fixtures for a kitchen. Over several years of working closely with the clients, that initial project grew into a complete home, designed and built alongside architect David Neumann and builder Michael Campbell.

Some of our most personal projects unfold exactly like this — one honest conversation and one thoughtful decision at a time, rather than from a single sweeping plan.

Has a project in your own life ever grown far beyond how it began?

This month, we are exploring The New Luxury — the belief that true luxury lies in comfort, craftsmanship, ease, privacy, and quality, not excess. This week’s focus: Quiet Confidence, the most understated of the four and, in many ways, the most difficult to achieve.

A quietly confident home never asks to be admired. It simply feels right the moment you are in it — a restrained palette, a considered detail, nothing added simply because it could be. That restraint takes far more discipline than adding more ever would.

What is one space you have been in that felt effortlessly elegant, without being flashy at all?
