I haven’t shared in awhile but this was very special to me 💐🙏. It’s a privilege to experience art with friends you care about, thank you Counterpublic for having me these last few days. Even more amazing is when all the work (I got to see) feels so compelling. One of my favorite things was how it felt really cosmopolitan and down to earth at the same time. How folks come up with dream teams of curators I have no idea but grateful to bask in the art: one example is the first pic of Lynne Smith’s “The Unloading Dock,” a lotus pond on a currently remediating Superfund site grown with harvested rainwater.

These are mostly photos of people + only a fraction of all the works, very grateful to all the humans who hosted + co-existed with me. Thank you Coyote Time it really is a special show everyone please go see it :) There are multiple other shows in the St. Louis area as well that I’m sure are amazing I just didn’t get to see them🙏💐🥲👏.

Artist Anika Todd walks us through the process of their work in Coyote Time

Anika Todd @anikatodd is an artist and educator whose work investigates Western principles of property that authorize human control of earth and sky. Reaching into the air and below the ground, Todd uses sculpture and video to reconfigure materials and imaging techniques historically used for surveillance and the control of public space, repurposing them for collective and playful use.

Todd earned a BFA from the Massachusetts College of Art and Design and an MFA from the University of Texas at Austin, and currently teaches sculpture at the Sam Fox School of Art and Design at Washington University in St. Louis. They have created site-specific outdoor works for NON STNDRD @stndrdexhibitions, MO (2025), and have presented solo exhibitions at Erin Cluley Projects, TX (2024); Lydian Stater, NY (2023); and Flux Factory, NY (2021).

They have participated in residencies nationally and internationally, including the NARS Foundation (2020) and the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture (2019). They received an Austin Cultural Arts Council Award in 2019 and were a finalist for the NYFA Architecture/Environmental Structures/Design Award in 2022.

Anika Todd’s commission is curated by Stefanie Hessler @steffihessler

@counterpublic brings Coyote Time to St. Louis this fall. Experience our Triennial exhibition from September 12–December 12, 2026.
