Look a bit closer! 'The River of Many Drops' embraces landscape as a collective consciousness formed through many individual perspectives, moving between the microcosm of the drop and the vastness of the river. Anil Thambai’s works look at architecture not simply as a structure, but as a landscape of information, memory, labour and lived experience. The spaces carry traces of the objects, labour and everyday lives that have shaped them, while the act of drawing becomes a way of decoding and reconstructing what is seen. There is a movement here between the physical structure and the ways in which it is remembered, observed and experienced. Check out Anil Thambai’s works at SRISHTI ART! On view till October 4, 2026. SRISHTI ART is pleased to present ‘The River of Many Drops,’ our upcoming exhibition that showcases works by Anil Thambai, Dibin Thilakan, Kumaresan Selvaraj, Meghana Gavireddygari, Ratna Gupta, and Trespassers. The exhibition brings together artists who approach landscape not as a backdrop or distant view, but as a way of understanding and mapping lived experience. Across the works, landscape becomes an active space through which ideas of identity, memory, belonging, and material presence are explored. Moving between internal and external terrains, the exhibition looks at how personal histories are shaped by the environments we inhabit and remember. Rivers, soil, architecture, weather, pathways, and fragments of land appear not simply as images of place, but as carriers of emotion, memory, and transformation. Landscape here acts both as witness and participant - holding traces of movement, intimacy, displacement, and change. On view from August 17, 2026 Timing: 11:00 am to 7:00 pm Venue: Srishti Art Gallery

Sujith Sudharkaran is another participating artist in the exhibition “The Presence in the Absence” presented by Gallery ONKAF at One New Street Gallery, Herne Bay. Through meticulous graphite drawings, Sudharkaran explores the fragile relationship between humans and the non-human world. Animals, human-made objects and altered landscapes come together in symbolic encounters that question our contradictory relationship with nature, like our desire to protect biodiversity while simultaneously reshaping the environments in which other species exist. Consistent with the idea of the presence and the absence, these monochromatic works invite a quiet contemplation of what is disappearing, what is transformed and what continues to endure. The animals become more than subjects; they embody the presence of a living world increasingly shaped by human intervention, urging us to reconsider our place within nature and the ethical responsibilities of coexistence.

Gallery ONKAF’s recent exhibition “The Presence in the Absence” presented at One New Street Gallery, Herne Bay includes the works of Suchita Manale - one of the six participating artists. Suchita’s artistic practice centres on the body, drawing from her engagement with performance art. In her work, solitude becomes a space of profound presence rather than absence. Through an intimate engagement with nature, she transforms silence, memory and personal experience into a process of introspection and creation. Soil, grass, thread and her body become conduits through which the boundaries between self and environment begin to dissolve. Within the concept of “The Presence in the Absence”, her practice reveals how withdrawal from the external world can open an inward space where nature, memory and the self converge, giving form to what remains unseen yet deeply present.

Milan Sharma is one of the participating artists in Gallery ONKAF’s exhibition “The presence in the absence” presented at One New Street Gallery, Herne Bay. Rooted in the landscapes of Panchari and Udhampur, Milan’s artistic practice emerges from the deep reservoir of childhood memories, local rituals, beliefs, folklore, and the visual culture of her surroundings. The impressions of these early experiences remain embedded within her imagination, resurfacing as fragments of memory, symbolic forms, and imagined narratives. Milan’s work resonates with the idea that what appears absent may continue to exist through memory. Childhood experiences, cultural traditions, and places left behind remain present within the artist’s inner world, even when they are no longer physically accessible. Her paintings become spaces where these traces of the past return - not as literal recollections, but as sensations, fragments, and visual echoes. Through this interplay of memory and imagination, Milan invites us to look beyond the visible and encounter the enduring presence of what is no longer physically there.
