Thank you to all the amazing peeps who came to DANCE (ya really did it) to some bass and brass with me at @centerstreetretreat for the Ancient Waters dance with @noonnahs_ :)

I'm not gonna lie, I really freaked out during this process. If you know me, I'm a big time cook and there were a few weeks where all I made were basic omlettes so I could get back to digging for music and practicing asap.

While building this set, I listened to a ton of ecstatic dance mixes, and a lot of them just... bored me. I kept fighting myself on needing to follow some formula and eventually said screw it and played what I loved. That was the right call and people danced the entire time!

While digging for tracks, I reached out to a bunch of artists behind the music and even tracked down a few songs that had basically vanished from the internet. Some of the artists wrote back and we got to chat about what their music meant to me. This deepened my relationship to the music and the experience, and it made the set feel like it belonged to more people than just me or the room.

So much of that night surprised me. The moments people cheered after breaks, how heavy the bass hit them, the different types of movement...I could feel all the motion without even looking up, and it brought the music alive for me in a way I hadn't experienced before.

I'd been particularly nervous with the run of high-energy songs near the end (because formulas told me put these in the middle) I'm glad I trusted myself! I took everyone all the way up, and the second that peak broke, people slowly melted onto the floor into a magical cuddle puddle. They knew it was ending, and started to respond to something we'd built together so organically.

Once we puddled, @the_troy_story3 sang a beautiful protection mantra over the room. So goooooood. I don't know where he transported us to, but it was good. We ended with a rolling om, everyone oming together, no syncing, just letting it roll. It eventually turned into one massive voice. Nobody decided when the last note would land, it just did and the power of our voices gave me full body chills.

Grateful isn't a big enough word for this one. Thank you <3 Mix is on SC!
