My firstborn. My oldest. My heart walking outside my body. 💙🥹

Today, PJ is off to his first school retreat! Zip-lining, s’mores, bonding with classmates, and making memories!

We packed last night, and this morning I walked him to the Metro. Watching him grow into himself has been such a beautiful part of motherhood.

He’s officially a TWEEN! At 11, he may look older, but I remind myself he’s still a little boy learning, growing, and finding his way.

I’m so proud of the young man he’s becoming. Enjoy being 11, PJ! There’s no rush to grow up. ❤️

We’re entering into the start of a season marked by games. NFL. NBA. But nothing about the state of DC is a game, and we need our politicians to step up and make sure they’re not playing us.

Just like our faves need courage on the court or in the field, we need DC lawmakers to rise up to this occasion to do more than maintain the status quo — which is NOT working.

The WPT is a Hail Mary for a safety net that’s been ripping at the seams for years, and we’re hoping our leaders see the value in making the call and running the right play.

I’m asking @councilofdc and DC’s soon-to-be-elected to step up and bring forth a public hearing — AND vote — on the Wealth Proceeds Tax this fall.

Council, you gonna keep sitting on the sidelines or get in the game?

Restaurants threatening to ‘not expand’ into DC while our residents — especially Black DC Natives — are being pushed out should NOT be prioritized by @councilofdc, especially as we have conversations about how to generate much-needed funding to repair our safety net.

As the old internet adage goes, people are dying, Kim 🫩

FBC is not fighting to raise taxes on working-class or even middle-class residents. We are asking Council to pass progressive tax policies that help fix our racist (bc yes it is 100% about race) tax system.

You pay your fair share, aren’t you pissed that our wealthiest are getting cuts while we’re out here struggling? ESPECIALLY when it doesn’t have to be this way?

We are asking Council to hold an official hearing (where the public can actually testify) AND vote on the Wealth Proceeds Tax (WPT) this fall.

If passed this fall, the WPT will generate around $200 million as early as January 2027 for DC’s incoming mayor to use to repair DC’s safety net.

So, yeah, we’ll choose the community cookout over corporate interests every day of the week.

Today, while out on our walk past the Deanwood Library, we ran into one of the coolest DC Public Library employees, Mr. Virgil Armstrong! 📚💛🖤

To my fellow DC residents, especially those in Northeast DC, take a moment to stop by the Deanwood Library and thank Mr. Armstrong for his leadership, dedication, and service to our community.
