Two weeks after retiring from 21 NBA seasons, Chris Paul took a Venture Partner role at Owl Ventures — the largest education and workforce fund in the world, behind MasterClass and Codecademy.

The reason is because he’s been an operator in their thesis for decades. He ran the NBA players’ union for eight years, negotiating collective bargaining agreements with billionaire owners. That’s labor economics at the highest level — and Owl Ventures’ entire thesis is the future of work.

Which makes him a domain hire, not a celebrity hire. Those are different things, and almost every athlete-joins-a-fund story is the second one.

10 years ago I met @anitaelberse as a Harvard student-athlete. Today she’s still pushing me to think bigger.

Last week I joined the 2026 Crossover Into Business cohort at Harvard Business School, the semester-long program Anita created to bring pro athletes and MBA students together. Watching her vision for athlete development come to life in that classroom was special. So excited for what these next few months have in store!

when I was 18, @harvard_business_review was my top podcast - I’d take pages of notes on snowboard road trips and I’m so excited to lock back into that mode for the next bit :)

What an honor to have been selected for the Crossover Into Business program at @harvardhbs ! Thanks to THE Professor @anitaelberse , I got to share the space with incredible athletes from all over the world from NBA, NFL, WNBA, WTA, MLS, MLB, FIS, PWHL and many other sports as well as fellow ballet dancers to talk business.

During the program kickoff, we got to participate in case studies and observe classes with incredible HBS professors. I can’t wait to dive deeper into the world of business with my mentors from the MBA program this semester!

I had the most incredible time at the kick-off to the Harvard Buisness School’s Crossover into Buisness Program! @harvardhbs
I spent two days with 50 players from major league sports team learning from HBS professors, discussing case studies, and observing classes. It was a fascinating experience and I’m looking forward to working with my two MBA mentors this semester, Kaveh & Sofia. Thank you for @anitaelberse for including the world of ballet - there were so many unexpected parallels. Honored to be selected!

The Harvard professor runs one of the most popular MBA and executive courses on campus, where she teaches about the hottest topics of sports, media, music and entertainment.
