🌈 UCI Track Cycling World Championships - 🇨🇳 Shanghai | 🚴‍♀️ Women's Omnium

The Track Worlds program continued with the premier endurance event: the Omnium. The opening Scratch Race saw a brutal mass crash when Lorena Wiebes was squeezed between Elisa Balsamo and Lara Gillespie and fell. Twelve other riders went down, including Balsamo, Morris, Martins, and Teutenberg. Wiebes suffered the worst and had to withdraw. Tsuyaka Uchino won the race ahead of Amalie Dideriksen and Anna Morris. Only 16th place for Lotte Kopecky.

By gaining two laps, Morris won the Tempo Race (42 points). Kopecky took second with one lap gained and 10 sprints won (30 pts) while Victoire Berteau was third (24 pts). Race 1 winner Uchino finished 6th. In the following Elimination Race Berteau pulled off a surprise win by outsprinting Kopecky, fresh off her world title in the discipline. Morris finished 3rd, with Uchino taking 6th. Early elimination for Gillespie (8th).

Ahead of the deciding Points Race, Morris led the standings with 112 points, ahead of Uchino (100), Berteau and Dideriksen (98), with Kopecky and Balsamo at 86. In the first half, Uchino scored in every sprint, winning two of those, to cut the gap to 5 points (119 vs 114). The race exploded after sprint 5 as the group split. Uchino, Dideriksen, and Kopecky, along with Morris initially, missed the split, though the Welsh rider reacted. The trio avoided getting lapped (saving a 20-point loss), but lost any chance to score. As Yareli Acevedo won the final two sprints, Anna Morris managed to defend her lead, securing her 5th world title, her first in a mass-start event, with 125 points. Uchino (114) and Dideriksen (107) held onto the podium spots.

Nice to be back at the track for the first UCI race in a year 🙌🏻
The international trophy of Barcelona never disappoints and I am very satisfied with the legs against a high level of competition, A crash during the first part of the points race put me away from the contention for the podium but it is still an encouraging fifth place one month away from the world championships in Shanghai.
Next race in Grenchen before the final training camp at home 🫰🏻

🚨Intervjualarm🚨

Intervju Anita Yvonne Stenberg

Hun hadde lite interesse for idrett.
