What a great group, and what a wonderful time!

A huge, heartfelt thank you to the 8 talented emerging artists for bringing all of their good energy and enthusiasm to the Fair and the Guild’s Emerging Artist Program. Our long-time juried members loved the fresh vibe they brought to the arena! The program ended on a high note for 2026, helping us connect with the next generation of makers and navigate the complexities of becoming professional artists. We cannot wait to see what they do next.

This program truly takes a village. Huge thanks to @mtnbizworks , @craftyourcommerce , @laurawoodstudios , and The Path Forward Foundation for helping make it happen. And a special shoutout to our hard-working SHCG team, Caren, Susan, and Elizabeth for putting so much heart and care into this initiative.

Watch this space for the 2027 EAP application, the application opens Jan. 11 and closes Feb. 21.

In case you are wondering where your money goes when you donate to The Path Forward Foundation, here’s one example. Anna Bryant ( @anna.bryant.art ) is one of 5 emerging artists the foundation sponsored at the Craft Fair of the Southern Highlands this weekend at Harrah’s Cherokee Center. Her words say it all. Listen to the video. And you can still donate by going to thepathforwardfoundation.org. The site also shows more examples of where your money goes.

The Fall edition of the 79th Annual Craft Fair of the Southern Highlands is underway at Harrah’s Cherokee Center-Asheville. Be sure to visit the booths of our Emerging Artists in the 400 section downstairs!

The featured emerging artists are Anna Bryant, Dani Easley, Melanie Risch, Anna Leigh Hunt, April Bonasera, Meghan Korol, Andrea Connolly, and Ethan Katz.

The Emerging Artist Program is a professional development initiative designed specifically for early-career regional makers with under seven years of professional sales. The program bridges the gap into the professional marketplace by helping these artists turn their passion into a sustainable business. It equips them with crucial entrepreneurial skills by providing specialized business education through Mountain BizWorks’ Craft Your Commerce initiative, which covers budgeting, pricing strategies, and profit margins. Additionally, participants receive essential financial assistance through heavily discounted booth fees at the craft fair, targeted marketing support, and direct professional development opportunities. Visitors can find their booths on the Arena level this weekend to experience their work and support their businesses.
Location: Harrah’s Cherokee Center – Asheville
Dates: October 15–18
Hours: 10:00 AM – 5:00 PM daily
Admission: $12 (Children under 12 are free)

What a wonderful weekend!!! Friday night’s opening reception was incredibly special and we’re so grateful to everyone who joined us. A huge thank you to Gary Byrd for sharing such a thoughtful artist talk and for helping bring more of Porge’s life and personality into the room. It meant a lot to have so many people gathered together around her work.

Saturday’s Intro to Drypoint class was so much fun and it felt especially meaningful to teach the process surrounded by Porge’s prints. Getting a little hands-on experience with drypoint gave everyone a deeper appreciation for just how much patience and skill goes into intaglio printmaking.

If you missed the exhibition this weekend and would still like to see Porge’s work, we’d love to have you. Print House is open by appointment and her collection is always available for viewing. You can make an appointment through our website and come spend some time with the work.

Thank you again to everyone who made the weekend so memorable ❤️

SCOUTED | Print House
@printhouseavl

There’s something wonderfully tactile about printmaking—the ink, the texture, the press, and the beautiful surprise of pulling a print for the very first time. That’s exactly what makes Print House such a special addition to Asheville’s creative community.

Founded by artists and printmakers Anna Bryant and Denise Markbreit, Print House is so much more than a gallery. Their new downtown space on Carolina Lane is a working print studio, education center, and gathering place where artists of all levels can learn, experiment, and get their hands a little inky.

From intimate workshops with nationally recognized printmakers to press rentals and one-on-one technical guidance, Print House makes this centuries-old art form feel fresh, approachable, and incredibly fun. We also love their commitment to sustainable, solvent-free practices and their belief that creativity is best when it’s shared.
After losing their original studio to Hurricane Helene, Anna and Denise rebuilt with resilience, heart, and an even bigger vision. The result is a beautiful new chapter for a beloved Asheville creative space.

Go for the art. Stay for the process. ANd don't forget to tell them SCOUT sent you!✨

Thank you to the 2026 Virginia A. Groot Material Exploration Residents—Lauren Grossman (@evergross), Kwadwo Som-Pimpong (@craftedglory), Kitty Wales (@kitty_wales), and Sarita Westrup(@saritawestrup)—for welcoming us into your studios and sharing a glimpse into your ideas, experiments, and processes! It was such a treat to experience your work up close and see how your explorations into new materials are taking shape during your time at the Center for Craft.

As part of the this unique residency, each artist is paired with a partner to learn and expand their practice using a new material. Lauren Grossman is exploring industrial felt with STEAM Studio (@unca_steam_studio); Kwadwo Som-Pimpong and Sarita Westrup are working in metal alongside Torched AVL (@torchedavl); and Kitty Wales is exploring basketry and paper with Alyssa Sacora (@thepatchworkunderground).

We’re so grateful to everyone who joined us for last week's Open House! And a huge thank you to the Virginia A. Groot Foundation for making this residency possible and supporting artists as they push their practices in new directions. We can’t wait to see where these explorations lead!

Since the July 2023 flood, the Displaced Creatives Fellowship has supported 8 artists and writers. After the loss of studio space, work, and time - displaced artists and writers come to VSC for respite, connection, and a return to creative practice. We are grateful to the Marshall and Margherite McComb Foundation for sharing our vision of supporting writers and artists like Anna displaced by disaster.

Support a resilient VSC by giving today.
