✈️ Traveling with narcolepsy? Comment TRAVEL to get @project_sleep’s ⚡️NEW toolkit!

📍 @remrunner’s fav tip? BUFFER DAYS! “When traveling internationally, I give myself a ‘buffer day’ without expectations to adjust.”

For example, she arrived to Singapore 🇸🇬 on a Thursday, knowing she’d 🎤 speak at a conference on Saturday.

Friday = buffer day

🌴 “I explored Singapore, had a late breakfast, visited a museum, it’s not that I was in bed all day, I just like having a day without expectations.

On buffer days, I often have more cataplexy and hallucinations around sleep (hotel staff are knocking & entering on repeat, anyone else?)”

☀️ Huge thanks to @anna.leigh.marr & @lmt826 and Farah Hassan for their incredible insights along with the amazing @project_sleep #narcolepsy nerd alert community for putting together this incredible toolkit!

🚨✈️ 💊 update!! My application to the Singapore Health Agency was approved to bring my #narcolepsy medications with me during my visit to attend #WorldSleep2025!
.
💕 Thank you @meandmycpap for promoting me to look into this after @project_sleep posted about our upcoming #WorldNarcolepsyDay broadcast: Traveling with Narcolepsy.
.
😬 I feel a little rediculous now hosting a broadcast on a topic I clearly still have a lot to learn about myself… even almost 18 years post-diagnosis…
.
💡Such is life with a #chronicillness, we are always still learning and adapting.
.
😵‍💫 LAYOVER TOO?! I also learned this week—while preparing for our travel broadcast with fellow @project_sleep colleague, Farah, that I might need similar permissions even for a layover in Tokyo 🇯🇵, where my stimulant (I take generic adderall) and sodium oxybate are both illegal. I checked flying through Hong Kong 🇭🇰 which also had similar, maybe slightly easier rules, but honestly the info is not straight forward, the best advice seemed to be on Reddit…
.
⏰ Ultimately with little time before my trip, I decided to fly direct from LAX to Singapore to avoid any layover. Apparently, it’s the longest flight that leaves from LAX at 17 hours… 😵‍💫 Luckily tix were still similarly priced to having booked my original trip months in advance. I have my Singapore permission notice and doctor’s letter printed out!
.
🛬 I suppose I will bring some fresh learnings to the travel discussion on 9/22 at 12noon ET!! Can’t wait to discuss more with @marrzipanna & @lmt826 — special guest speakers!!
