Before writing Our Last Wild Days, Sunday Times bestselling author Anna Bailey wrote multiple full manuscripts that never became published novels.

After the success of Tall Bones, she felt pressure to write another thriller - but eventually stopped trying to recreate what had worked before.

Her advice? Give yourself permission to experiment, scrap ideas and start again.

Sometimes the books that don’t work are part of finding the one that does.

We can’t believe it’s been a week since our wonderful bookshop manager, Jan, was at Sandon Literature Festival meeting such lovely authors!

Thank you to Sandon Hall as always for having us (and for the excellent cup of tea!🫖). Also a big thankyou to the authors themselves for being so lovely to chat with, and of course we must recommend that you swing by Waterstones Stafford for any remaining copies we have that we were so lucky to have signed!

Making space for yourself isn’t always easy when you’re a busy mum!

Anna Bailey and I talk about the importance of having a physical space to write, and why carving out that space can make such a difference to your creative work.

You don’t need a whole room or the perfect setup. Sometimes, it’s simply about creating a little space that feels like yours. I’ve recently moved house and feel very excited that I have my own writing hut - stay tuned for updates from the hut!

My job takes me to the most amazing, contrasting places. Thursday, Pentonville prison; today, Sandon House near Stafford for the Sandon Literary Festival, where I appeared on a very fun panel with Anna Bailey. What a place! I could see myself living here. Wouldn’t want to do the gardening though.

Bonjour bonjour

Bonnes lectures.

What can aspiring authors learn from a Sunday Times bestselling novelist?

On S2 E5 of ‘A Thread of One’s Own’, I sat down with @annabaileywrites , author of Our Last Wild Days, to talk about writing, research, rejection, finding an agent and developing a creative process.

From letting your characters lead the story to keeping a notebook full of tiny details, Anna shared plenty of practical advice for anyone working on their own book.
Here are five of our favourite takeaways. Which one would you add?

Lived deliciously surrounded by these beautiful, sweet black goats and thought about all of the amazing book tropes that come in 3’s. ✨🖤🐐

What books are catching your eye? 👀

• Next Three Physical Books •

It’s that time again where I am choosing my next three and here are the ones I have chosen. I am currently reading Falling for you @heidi_swain and really enjoying it. I have also tried to pick very different books so let’s see, will they be good choices?
