POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

Kathryn-Grace was four when she begged to go to ballet with me. But once we arrived, she wasn’t content to simply watch; she cried herself into some kind of traumatic convulsion in the observation room, and I barely made it through barre, missing center entirely. On the drive home, I silently promised myself she wouldn’t dance until she was truly ready.
Four years later, she trained under Anna Baker VanCura @ballet_tennessee under their Dance Alive program (now reaching new heights under the guidance of @jenisoneduave). Then came Covid, and with it, Brian McSween, so we moved our training to @chattanooga_ballet. I hung up my own shoes and poured everything I’d learned from the art and design world into @kyle_build. Meanwhile, @kathryn.grace.kyle flourished, taking more classes, growing stronger, braver, more confident with every step. Julia danced alongside her for many years, learning, exploring, and sharing in all the experiences that come with following a passion. But, when @bostonballet invited us to apply to @walnuthillarts, we were nervous and excited, scared and hopeful: all the emotions ballet teaches you to embrace. Fearless as ever, she stepped forward and launched into full-time dance at sixteen. This year, Julia traveled with me to Boston to see her sister perform in the Nutcracker, and it was such a gift to experience it together, watching Kathryn-Grace shine while sharing all the small moments in between. Now, as she enters her senior year, she faces new auditions, company trainee opportunities, and the possibility of global travel.
Through it all, the lesson has been simple but profound: dance. Not on the surface, but with vulnerability deep in your heart, letting passion carry you forward, letting God guide your steps into the unknown.
The trips to Boston have been a blessing beyond measure, they’ve enriched our love for art and life, added layers to my design career, and shown us the beauty of hard work and dedication. This Happy Nutcracker week, we soaked it all in, preparing for dozens of new auditions, ready to see where dance, design and the arts will take us all next. ~ Danielle

A sweet memory from The Millenium Nutcracker, 2001 🎄 It meant so so much to have @annabaker1100 in the audience at MBT’s Nutcracker this year, and I know Mr. V was watching from above. Thank you both for everything!!!

So glad we’re able to spend time with family and friends in Chattanooga last week (many of whom are not pictured)!

Had to kick off this series of photos with the classic “back porch stairway shot” at the Locke house 🏡

First ballet performance at 36 years old. Thank you, @annabaker1100 , for making me feel accepted in a ballet class. It’s such an honor to study with a Master such as yourself. Can’t wait to continue my training next year.
