Find yourself a friend who gets you!

Many of you know my great love for decorating for the holidays. It is one of my absolute favorite things to do. @annaistheworst gets it, she loves to decorate too and every corner of her home is magical!

A few weeks ago I got a Marco asking if I’d like to help decorate her home for Christmas. How did she know it was something I needed? So yesterday we gathered and decorated a little and then made these amazing wreaths.

It filled my cup in so many ways. If you ever have a random idea or thought pop into your head, try acting on it. It might seem silly to you but will mean the world to the other person.

This is what you do with an idea-unleashing social media to multiply goodness 🔥

On a treadmill at 5:30 AM on a Tuesday in October, I reached out to my favorite social media superstar @annaistheworst and asked if she’d help the nonprofits I work with at one of my Building Bridges events- she said YESSSSS and blew us all away with her social media savvy!

With over forty influencers in attendance (99% showed up!!!) and fifty five incredible nonprofits, we came together to raise awareness, engage supporters, and drive their missions forward.

It was a magical and sacred experience watching these two groups unleash their shared power and multiply goodness! So grateful 💥

FACE YOUR FEARS!!!!!

I have a lot of things to say and not enough room. You know your fears, you know what makes you SUPER uncomfortable. Doesn’t matter if they are silly to others, fear is fear. Period!

I have some silly, and some not so silly. It’s not for anyone to judge which ones go in which category. I’m sharing some vulnerable thoughts and pictures with you because I feel this is a safe place.

It’s taken me a few weeks to wrap my head around this trip Kev and I went on. I don’t wear swimsuits that aren’t basically dresses (for some reason I have a fear of showing my butt and legs). I think it came from some idiot making fun of me early on and I gave it power. I have a fear of heights, trying things new and scary especially in FRONT of other people, fear of belonging, rejection, the unknown.

I wasn’t sure who would be on this trip with us, I’ve never been somewhere tropical so wasn’t sure what to bring, how my pre-menopausal self would handle the heat, how Kev would do (he has an aversion to the sun), what excursions we would be doing etc. I was a ball of nerves and stress to the point where I doubted going.

I went. We went. We met the most beautiful people that cared about us, our story, our joys and sorrows and asked follow up questions to get to know us better. NO surface conversations were had with them. They asked what we loved about each other. What our dreams were. It filled my soul.

I was hesitant to say we would like to go to church but people CAME with us! We had to get two vans! Our drivers came in to worship with us and Kev and I wept with how much it reminded us of our missions in another far off country.

I jumped off CLIFFS!!!! In front of people….in a BATHING suit that wasn’t a full on dress!!!!!! By the way I brought quite a few suits and THE most comfortable were the @kortnijeane ones. I felt supported, covered and COMFY!!! I couldn’t believe it!

I am forever grateful to @shinecosmetics for inviting us. For giving us the chance to connect with them and others. For providing a space for Kev to unplug from his demanding job to be present with me. It pushed me, it lifted me, it opened my eyes, it was heaven! Facing Fears!!!

A college professor drilled a phrase + a philosophy into my brain many years ago and it has a permanent spot in my heart. 👉🏼 “The purpose of the task is to strengthen the relationship.” No matter what the task (small or big), if you always remember that the primary purpose is the relationship over the “task” itself, it can be life-changing.

I love people who really get this.

Some pretty amazing friends of ours at @shinecosmetics certainly do. They established a tradition several years ago … to go on a trip this time each year and bring others with them — a handful of people who believe in the Shine mission and who are championing their brand.

I don’t know what those trip planning meetings look like but there’s no question in my mind that these exceptional people believe in this philosophy too! The purpose of these trips is to strengthen relationships. I can tell because that’s. what. happens.

This time it was Jamaica. There’s a LOT to love about this trip! 👉🏼 The ocean. Endless hours just being in the water. Not having to prepare a single meal. Virgin Miami Vices by the pool. Game night. Ignoring the to-do list. Playing in waterfalls. Live musicians. Shenanigans. Laughing. So much natural Vitamin D. A hit of warmth before Winter hits. Going to church on the island. Having my toes in the sand during dinner. It’s all. so. good.

But my faaaaavorite part? 👉🏼 connection.

With a group of 35 people it’s impossible to connect deeply with every single person in just a few days but man, those personal connections … deep conversations … really getting to know someone through their personal stories … hearing their perspectives … picking up where we left off with existing friends … making NEW friends that I adore … it’s soul-enriching to me.

And I’m so grateful for it. 🙏🏼 Grateful to @shinecosmetics who are beyond generous in treating us to this experience. Grateful for a tradition of strengthening relationships.
