🍯🐝 Dancing with Bees 🐝🍯 By @annamaynardauthor ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ A perfect read for Aussie Author August! What a delightful surprise this book was. I laughed out loud more times than I expected and also cringed alongside the characters, but tucked between all the humour was a story with so much heart. Sunny’s journey felt messy, relatable, and wonderfully human, while the romance bloomed as slowly and sweetly as the bees she learned to care for. Just when I thought I was settling into a light-hearted rom-com with some good ol’ banter, this book completely caught me off guard with its emotional depth. And the ending had me crying like an absolute baby! I loved the involvement of Aussie music in the book as well. And the fact that it was set in the beautiful Tasmania. If you’re looking for a romance that will make you laugh, make you feel, and leave your heart a little fuller, bee sure to pick this one up 🐝💛 We love bees 🐝 We love rainbow tea 🌈 Fun fact: I absolutely love bees! I get called HannahBee because my last name starts with B and for my love of bees. 🇦🇺 ABC TOP 100 AUSTRALIAN BOOKS Ok choosing just 10 books for this was genuinely cruel 😂 My shortlist was gigantic and somehow every time I narrowed it down, another book would pop into my head and demand to be included. Eventually, I landed on these 10 as my top Australian books and my reviews in this post probably give you a pretty good idea why these particular books made the cut. One thing I found interesting… 9 of my 10 votes were books I manually added to the voting list myself! Clearly I have some very strong opinions about what deserves a spot! It’s also been fascinating seeing the early trends from ABC, with a real soft spot emerging for more recent releases. Most of the books currently sitting in the Top 100 were published from 2000 onwards, with more than a quarter released in the past decade. I’m definitely guilty of leaning that way with my picks! FLOWERS IN JULY BY Anna Maynard @annamaynardauthor ✨Review ✨ really enjoyed Dancing With Bees by Anna Maynard and Flowers in July is even better! Flowers in July is an emotional and heart-warming read. Anna Maynard portrays the grumpy, brooding male protagonist so well. Her men always have a kind and gallant heart inside that grumpy exterior. Mary was very easy to like. She was smart, kind hearted and a bit socially awkward. Flowers in July was such a fun read. I liked both Mary and Abel and loved seeing them get flustered around each other. This is a slow-burn romance but not frustratingly slow. I feel that Maynard paced it well. There are themes of living your own life and the fact that propping people up all the time, even though you love them very much, isn’t helping them get their life together. Flowers in July is a witty, heartfelt and uplifting read filled with lovable characters and laugh-out-loud moments. 🗓️ July wrap up 🗓️ Another month, another multitude of adventures, experiences and emotions. What a rollercoaster July turned out to be! I started the month by venturing into the underbelly of London, where shady figures lurked around every corner. From there, I found myself in a dying-outback town, desperately trying to come to terms with my son’s disappearance. Then, to my absolute shock, I was sold by my own family and sent an ocean away from home, into a world of prostitution. I grappled with familial expectations, the need for acceptance and the complicated bonds that tie us together. When my daughter was suspected of murder, I stopped at nothing to prove her innocence. Then, as I struggled to navigate grief, I found an unexpected glimmer of hope in a newfound friendship. Surrounded by beautiful frocks, I discovered that it’s never too late to chase your dreams, especially when you have friends beside you who believe in you every step of the way. But the emotional rollercoaster wasn’t over yet. A deeply guarded secret and my own infamy threatened the people I had come to love. And just when life seemed to be settling down, I found myself obsessing over the disappearance of a young girl who reminded me of how narrowly I had escaped a similar fate decades earlier. After so much heartache, danger, secrets and uncertainty, I finally ended the month finding my happy place, and perhaps even my person, in beautiful Tasmania. If you like romance, and were thinking that you needed a few (many) more Australian authors in your life, then this should have you covered for a while! It feels like Australian contemporary romance has had a real resurgence recently, (which I love) and while this is absolutely not a comprehensive list there are some really great books on the list. Some of my recent favourites include Power Moves, An Academic Affair, No Hard Feelings, and The Wedding Forecast. And I’m really looking forward to getting into Side Character Energy, The Paradise Pact, How to Kill a Guy in Ten Dates and In Spite of You.
