From 18-21 June, the RCA’s Battersea campus will open its doors to the public, showcasing the creative work of graduating students from across the School of Arts and Humanities.

A culmination of my studies on the MFA in Art & Humanities, I’ll be presenting a digital installation bringing together five films from my Studio BTS Patreon project with commissioned poetic responses from writers that I admire and have collaborated closely with over time.

The overall project explores contemporary forms of patronage as a means of documenting, archiving and sharing artistic practice. The work considers how digital platforms might foster sustained relationships between artists and audiences, creating softer networks of support, exchange and collaboration that exist alongside the traditional gallery model.

Come through, take a pew with me in room STU.01.004 and enjoy some gentle textural films, designed to be seen away from the noise of social media.

I had imagined that the beautiful freckles on quail eggs were purely for camouflage, but felt charmed to learn that they are also structural reinforcement. The darker spots often appear where the shell is weakest, adding strength through tiny layers of a pigment called 𝘗𝘳𝘰𝘵𝘰𝘱𝘰𝘳𝘱𝘩𝘺𝘳𝘪𝘯.

It reminds me of Kintsugi, the ancient Japanese craft tradition where broken porcelain is repaired with lacquer mixed with gold. The vulnerable places become the most visible ~ and sometimes the most beautiful.

Egg shells, with freckles of silver leaf and baroque pearl feature throughout my works in Nature Pours, which is on view now at @berrybrosrudd in Mayfair for @londoncraftweek and will continue throughout the month of May, past the Blue Moon and beyond 🥚•*.•.

New artist zine available now! 📣

Storm Stones is a 20-page booklet, with a specially commissioned text by @annasouter, examining a series of engraved stone works inspired by my daughter, Arden, and explorations of Orkney while on residency in 2023.

The booklet features full colour images of all the works in the series, handmade into a bespoke artist zine with GF Smith seaweed paper covers, dark pink sugar paper inserts, all printed by Matt Martin @toner.pz. 💫

Signed and limited to 60 copies.

In the closing days of 2025, we’ll be taking a look back over our exhibitions this year.

Next up, we were thrilled to present the first full solo exhibition by figurative painter Anne Berg in 35 years — curated by @annasouter. Taking its title from an exhibition of the same name organised by Berg and Monica Sjöö in the early 1980s, Woman Magic brought together a selection of Berg’s paintings of magical female figures, presenting a world view of feminist power, ecological sensibility, and interspecies relationships.

“Amy Stephens’ third solo exhibition at Art Seen, the artist stages potent encounters between the Cypriot landscape, sculptural materials and the human body. She creates dynamic spaces for questioning the relationships between people, places and the role of art to reframe a sense of environmental belonging.

Stephens is a writer of forms. Everyday materials are carefully constructed into objects that transform and disrupt the physical landscape. In this exhibition, artworks have been assembled over time in an unrestricted way. Architecture infiltrates objects, nature crosses into sculpture and minerals define the space.”

In search of fresh #water

Anna Souter reports on the exhibition 'Thirst: In Search of Freshwater' at the @wellcomecollection. Through this thought-provoking exhibition, she sees a clear link between access to water, socio-economic inequality and the environmental crisis.

What does it mean to be thirsty? What measures will we take to quench our thirst? And how do we control other people’s access to water? These questions are at the heart of Thirst: In Search of Freshwater at Wellcome Collection, London, an exhibition that draws together historical artefacts, documents and contemporary art to interrogate our relationship with water throughout history.

Throughout the exhibition, historical objects are juxtaposed with contemporary artworks, creating channels for visitors to feel a connection with their ancestors. Thirst encourages us to consider the people who lived on dry land thousands of years ago, how they survived, and how we can learn from their wisdom. The exhibition is careful to avoid romanticising Indigenous knowledge as something mystical, and instead seeks to frame this knowledge as engineering, citing some of the ambitious and ingenious ways in which people have accessed fresh water in challenging environments over the millennia.

Flowing across a range of times and geographies, the exhibition asks us to consider the myriad human and environmental factors that impact our relationship with and access to fresh water. “There’s huge political and socioeconomic inequality at the heart of many of these stories,” says the exhibition’s curator @janicecyli. She emphasises that watery ecologies, cultures and economies are closely linked – and are often affected by inequality and oppression in inextricable ways.

I've admired Anna Ridler's work for years now, though I mainly knew her best-known project Myriad, for which she created a dataset from thousands of tulip flowers and then built an AI program to create new iterations of tulips, creating a comparison between the Dutch tulip bubble and the speculative forces driving Bitcoin values. I was delighted when she asked me to work with her on a new artist statement text, offering the opportunity to get to know the rest of her work better.

"Since floral motifs have traditionally been associated with the feminine, Ridler knowingly accepts the possibility that her work might be reduced to its aesthetic qualities, interested in society’s struggle to reconcile prettiness with technological and conceptual complexity. Flowers themselves are often deemed decorative and therefore trivial, despite being essential to the functioning of life on earth. The botanical world’s capacity to hold paradoxes echoes the ways in which Ridler’s work simultaneously contains and acknowledges contradictory aspects, as well as examining how these contradictions are culturally constructed."

Sharyn Wortman’s works are sites of atmospheric emergence. From her large-scale charcoal drawings and installational works to her smaller slate pieces, her practice is concerned with materiality and mark-making.

Each work is unique, but uniformity of format and materials fosters the generative potential of iteration.

“These diaries are really interesting because they are a fascinating chronicle of decades of Anne’s life and work. She’s kept a diary since the 1970s almost to the present day and she’s always illustrated them. Sometimes they illustrate the events in the diary and sometimes they have no connection to them at all. They’re a record of some really important events in the figurative feminist painting movement and she has very detailed recollections of events like the exhibition Woman Power at Swiss Cottage which was organised by Monica Sjöö which was raided by the police.”
