We are proud to announce MA Documentary Filmmaking graduate @annaweltner Anna Weltner's latest documentary project Toy Film Story (working title) is now in production. The film is a profile of Yoneo and Fumiyo Ota, the owners of the @toyfilmmuseum in Kyoto, Japan, a museum and archive dedicated to early cinema. Anna says she 'fell in love with this place' when she first visited last August. 'It was so cozy and personal, unlike the sterile atmosphere of most museums. The Otas had clearly put their heart and soul into it, not to mention their own resources'. When Anna pitched a documentary, the Ota's said yes—but added that their lease would be expiring in a few months, and they’d be closing, at least temporarily. She flew back to Kyoto over Thanksgiving to capture the old space before that happened. After a lot of hard work and some help from their community, they’re about to re-open in a new location (a former kimono factory). Anna, based in Portland, U.S.A., is now planning to fly back in April to catch up with the Otas and finish the story. If you’d like to support the project, you can do so at crowdfundr.com/toyfilmdoc - https://fnd.us/toyfilmdoc?ref=sh_8KBSe4WsDni8KBSe4WsDni @northernfilmschool #silentcinema #shortfilm #documentary
