Advanced Certificate in Accents and Phonetics for Coaching Actors - Starting 7th May 2025!

🧑‍🏫Meet the experts you'll be learning from... PART 1

(SWIPE)

Colton Weiss (he/they) is a professional dialect coach, actor, and lecturer (Ohio State Univ.) based out of Columbus, Ohio. Colton has 10+yrs experience working on and off stage ranging from Broadway level musicals and classic opera to outdoor Shakespeare. His clients range from local middle school/high school students and working adults, to professionals performing regionally and on Broadway.

Beatrice Szczepek Reed is Professor of Linguistics at King’s College London, where she is the Co-Director of the Centre for Language, Discourse and Communication. Beatrice studies spoken language, particularly the phonetics and phonology of natural conversation. She has researched how speakers mirror each other prosodically in natural talk; how speakers of different accents of English use speech rhythm in conversation; and how ‘liaison’ exists not only in French but also in English and German.

Anne Whitaker's work as a voice coach spans professional coaching and conservatoire training programs including The Royal Central School for Speech and Drama, Mountview, and The Globe. As a voice coach she is always working to improve her practice through interdisciplinary research. Her specialism is in prosody, or the musicality of language.

Eric Armstrong works as an accent/dialect coach for theatre, film, television and gaming. He is the Chair of the Department of Theatre, Dance & Performance at York University in Toronto, Canada, where he teaches voice, speech, dialects/accents, and text in the BFA acting program. Eric holds a BFA from Concordia University and an MFA from York University, as well as various certificates.

Miha Constantinescu is a Senior Lecturer in Cognitive and Developmental Psychology. Before joining UEL in 2018, she earned an MPhil and a PhD in Developmental Psychology from the University of Cambridge. Miha has published research in cognitive development and spatial abilities; sex differences in infancy and childhood; hormones and behaviour.

Stay tuned for part 2✨

LEVEL UP⬆️

It's here! Our highly anticipated LEVEL TWO Certificate in Accents and Phonetics for Coaching Actors starts this May!

🗓️ 7th May - 31st July 2025 (full schedule on our website)

Building on the foundation of the Level One Certificate in Accents and Phonetics, this advanced course takes your skills to the next level.

✨Sharpen your coaching skills, discover new tools, and learn how to connect more deeply with your clients ✨

🔹The course provides an in-depth look at some of the key fundamental aspects of coaching accents, like phonetics and prosody, as well as introducing some theory and practice-based concepts relating to the complexities of this field, such as coaching for neurodiverse performers, English as an additional language (EAL) speakers and identity politics.

⭐Each session will be delivered either by an industry expert guest lecturer or an in-house lecturer, and hosted by Louisa Morgan, #spokenvoice lead here at the Voice Study Centre. This offers you the opportunity to learn from experienced experts from the theatre and film industry, academics with a wealth of knowledge and cutting-edge research, and top coaches at the forefront of actor training.

This course is best suited to #voicecoaches who already have some basic experience in teaching #accentsandphonetics or who have already taken our level one course.

Head to the course page to learn more, browse through the expert speaker line-up, or book your place (link in bio)

Celebrating love with swords, castles, slides and the most respectful mosh pit of 30 year old emo elders who aren’t nimble 14 year olds anymore.

Congratulations to the delightful Fred and Anna, on your wedding!! Wishing you all the happiness in your next chapter in life together. Still getting physio from all the head banging - so worth it.
