The rain understood the assignment 🌧️💧

From the moment we arrived at Anoka County Library until the moment we left, the rain poured down.

Which couldn’t have been more perfect for a day spent exploring one question:

What if kids didn’t just learn about the water… but actually experienced it?

During our special We Are Water Yoga & Mindfulness class, we moved our bodies through the journey of water, from evaporation and condensation to precipitation and collection.

Then we slowed down for a story I wrote especially for this experience: a rainy day that leads a mom and daughter into an unexpected adventure… creating a rain stick together!

And finally, our students became the makers themselves, creating their own rain sticks to take a little piece of the experience home. 🌧️

But underneath the yoga, storytelling and creating was something bigger:

Water connects all of us!

To our bodies, our neighbors, our communities
and to the world around us. 🌎

And when children can move through a lesson it becomes something they can actually feel.

So yes… the fact that the rain kept falling outside all day felt pretty perfect! 💙

Thank you to Anoka County Library and We Are Water MN for inviting The Mindfulness Movement™ to bring this experience to life.

We are water, and we’re all connected.💧

📚 Library of the Week 📚

12/381
Anoka County Library: Centennial Branch
Circle Pines, MN
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This week on The Minnesota Tour of Libraries, we visit the Centennial Library in our old stomping grounds. This library is one of the foundational libraries that helped solidify Charlotte’s love for libraries and all things books. We lived within walking distance of this library for over 2 years when she was a baby/toddler, and we came here at least twice a week. This was before we realized we can visit other library locations! To say we’re familiar with this location is an understatement
📚
Centennial library has a nice variety of books and other items you can check out such as board games, cookware, etc. When Charlotte was 18 months old, we checked out a cake pan in the shape of Elmo’s head because Elmo was more than a favorite character at our house. This was when I realized you can checkout more than just books
📚
Not only do you get the inside of this library to enjoy; there’s a park with walking trails, a community garden, and a rock garden right outside. Charlotte calls it “The Farm Park” because everything is farm themed. I’ve never seen the park overwhelmingly busy. If you’ve been following along on our journey this far, you may have gathered that I don’t like crowded parks, libraries, etc.. I’m all about socializing, but there comes a point when there are too many cooks in the kitchen
📚
My favorite thing about this library is the organization of the adult books- it’s always easy to find what you’re looking for. They have the books categorized very well and this is much appreciated. Charlotte will tell you that her favorite things are the Legos on the inside and the rock garden outside
📚
This is another library on our giant list of libraries that we will probably continue to visit when we’re in the area. I would also recommend checking out their event schedule. They’ve been known to host some pretty cool things here; they even have a full test kitchen!

I’m hoping Anoka County Library (St. Francis) likes my book enough to add it to circulation!! Then I’ll be able to bring so many children joy🥰 As a local self published author/illustrator that would be a dream come true @anokacolibrary #childrensbooks #childrensbook #childrensbookillustration #cutecat #anokacounty

“I made this book to help children laugh, bond with, and see similarities in their own cat. And to understand why cats sleep so much through silly, adorable illustrations and writing.”
I hope that I’m able to accomplish my goal 😻 You can purchase your very own copy on Amazon or sweetgracebooks.com #@anokacolibrary #childrensbooks #childrensbook #childrensbookillustration #cutecat childrensbookauthor
