Fabian Reetz
EAST GERMAN GOTHIC STUDY
(to keep oneself warm)
Schiefer, Holz, Nägel
50 x 70 cm
2023

Arno Brandlhuber
CMYK 14/40/80/20
Poster
84 × 59,5 cm
Auflage 100
2011

Lisa Tan
Two Brave New Worlds
Two Deaths in Venice

From the series “Books”
Digital c-prints in artist frame
Dimensions variable for each work
2006
Anonymous Collection Berlin

Text, quoted from the artists website:

Lisa Tan relocated to New York from Los Angeles and moved in with her boyfriend at the time, also an artist, which resulted in their respective libraries converging. The photographs create an index of the books they own in common as a type of portraiture. The titles of the works humorously play off of their coupling, for instance, Joseph Conrad’s Heart of Darkness becomes Two Hearts of Darkness. The photographs take up individual subjecthood as it is formed in part by the shared experiences of literature – and in the case at hand – the books are indicative of an iteration of a certain American liberal arts education. Still, no matter how many common references two people might share, a gap always exists between the spines.

es muss wieder weniger werden /
it has to become less again
B12, Bottrop
July 26th - September 21st of 2024

It is said that we cannot not communicate - but what happens when communication becomes dysfunctional, one-sided, when it shifts, gets muted, dies? Misunderstandings, silent agreements and shadow cabinets, decisions made in the dark as well as situations of loss and loneliness, inner and outer cleansing processes, radio silence, ghosting and attempts to reestablish connections are topics of the exhibition “it has to become less”.
Clusters of works, partly procedural, ask questions of an emotional and personal as well as a societal and political nature - and at the same time establish bridges in form as well as subject matter with each other - along with a link to the preceding exhibition “trying to find the one by seeking and hiding”, in presence and reminiscence.
