Celebrating one year in eastern DRC🇨🇩🇺🇳

A year full of discoveries, hard moments, joy, difficulties, a huge amount of work, words not said and words said too many times, a new way of living and a probably a renewed me.

DRC is where I learnt to appreciate, enjoy and discover the little joys of life, forgetting for a while of the superficial way of living I was used to. Where I learnt to be present in every single moment without caring of what is next.

That's were I learnt what suffer is and what resilience is. That's where I have met some of the most amazing persons I ever met in my life and got familiar with their stories. That's where I experienced fear, where I got sick and I found myself alone, where an AK-47 is probably one of the most common things you see every day. That's where I saw children sick, children in the rivers looking for gold, children dying of starvation and I could not do anything about it. But that's also where I have seen the most colourful and beautiful dresses and the most joyful dances and where I heard the happiest songs.

That's also where I got up from my bed for weeks crying. That's where I wanted to leave, but also where I wanted to stay. That's where I realized that sometimes I over or underestimate people who are part of my life. That's where I learnt that people who want to make time for you, are there at the end of the day, and don't need excuses or justifications.

It has not been easy, but I learnt a good lesson. I learnt that you should not ask for people to be there for you because you are on your own in life. I learnt that the best laughs come in the most unexpected moments. I also learnt to enjoy nice and good conversations with strangers, people just passing by. I realized that life is unplannable in certain situations and my heart can change direction very quickly.

I learnt that life is truly beautiful in its simplicity and diversity, discovering a whole world full of kindness to be cultivated.

I learnt a whole new way of love towards life and the people I meet on the road, a pure and genuine love which has no expectations and wants nothing in return.

Grateful for this year, looking forward to the next one🤍

You know when you “thought” that you knew which career path to take when you were younger ? Well for a while, I was convinced that I wanted to be a policy analyst working for an IO. Fast forward to graduating with my Master’s in Public Policy, I realized that I was wrong. It sucked. I was almost scared to tell people that I didn’t actually enjoy what I spent years studying.

Two years after, I decided to do what I really wanted, to start my own thing.

It was hard to start from zero in another field and even harder to open a company in a foreign country. I was so intimated to go to all of these meetings with banks, accountants, and associations, etc, all in french. Trust me, I don’t think my brain processed what I signed myself up for.

But today, I’m so happy to be where I am now. There’s so much that I still need to learn about coffee, but that’s also the best part right? To love something, become better at it, and be able to share that with others 💛

But really,
I’m just happy that I don’t have to worry about ever using STATA again in my life.

Life is too short for that :’)
