artists who treat music videos like film… it’s a post i’ve wanted to make for so long

truly, it’s these type of videos that storytell beyond just having “cool effects” that truly make for some of the most magical media we have out in modern culture. yes, cool effects are awesome, and I think there’s tons of artists and directors who do incredible jobs with that, especially considering a lot of music out now works best with that, but telling a story through various characters, visual plots, and more is truly something that you can’t forget

for the artists on this post, from partyof2 to kendrick lamar to blood orange and kenny mason and more, the music is present and demands visuals that pair to create captivating stories, and that’s exactly what you get. beyond the artists themselves that we’ve tagged and included on this list, I reallllllly want to give a major shoutout to the various directors and production teams who’ve contributed. please go check them out — I tried finding and tagging as many as instagram would allow me to tag

one recent example I can think of where the bridge is met between effects and plot is something like fakemink’s “fml” if you ask me

in the mainstream, you really expect captivating stuff from people such as a$ap rocky with his recent “whiskey” video off of “don’t be dumb” taking you through a whole whirlwind of a story with the characters tim burton created, or kendrick lamar who gave us one of the best videos out in “we cry together.” a true short film

seeing it in the underground scene is even more impressive when you consider that a lot of these artists have lesser budget available, but again, where there’s a vision and a dedicated team to trust available, there’s a way. and the magic is clear in the post

from unflirt to ovrkast to govanni to dexter in the newsagent to sampha, mckinley dixon, and more, these are some artists I wanted to curate and spotlight. if you guys have any more artists you know are creating true cinema through their videos, let me know down below

2:39:48. All Christ, not me.

Have finally had some time to decompress post mara.
The goal was to achieve a championship time of sub 2:38. Went through 30km on track for 2:37, but couldn’t hang on. It sucks to come agonisingly close, but that’s the marathon for you. And at the end of the day I can’t be disappointed with a 17 minute PB.

This was by far the toughest block I’ve done. Three different countries, flooding, snow, -12 through to 38 degree runs, injuries, 4am starts, and the bulk of it solo. But grateful to have made it to the start line as healthy as I could ask for and ready to go.
