If These Walls Could Speak 🔴

In Private collection . Acquired on JUNETEENTH @empower_etv
Collaboration with My brother @anthonyeboone and was encouraged/inspired by @bfly777 .

If These Walls Could Speak is a mixed-media assemblage that examines memory, ancestry,
migration, and the stories embedded within the spaces we inherit. Constructed with materials gathered across continents and generations, the work serves as a visual conversation between Angola, Virginia, and the enduring presence of family history. At the center of the piece is reclaimed wood collected in Angola, surrounded by photographs of aging buildings whose walls have witnessed decades of change, resilience, and survival. These architectural fragments become symbols of memory—silent witnesses to the lives, struggles, and
triumphs of the people who passed through them. The circular sandpaper elements reference the
passage of time, erosion, labor, and the wear left behind by generations. Their textured surfaces suggest both scars and healing, reminding us that history is continuously shaped, worn down, and rebuilt.
Suspended from the work is a chain recovered from my family’s land in Emporia, Virginia, land that
has remained in our family since 1895. The chain carries the weight of lineage, labor, endurance, and survival. It serves as a tangible connection to my ancestors, linking the physical landscape of Virginia to broader histories of migration, displacement, and belonging.

Black root-like forms weave across the surface, connecting each element like veins, rivers, or family
trees. They suggest the invisible threads that bind us to place, memory, and one another. Through layers of collage, paint, photography, found objects, and personal artifacts, If These Walls Could Speak asks viewers to consider what structures remember and what stories remain embedded within their surfaces.
The work proposes that walls are not silent. They absorb generations of laughter, grief, labor, love, and resilience. If these walls could speak, they would tell stories of those who came before us, the places that shaped us, and the ancestral connections that continue to guide us across time and distance
