Just like that ‘The Curious Incident’ has come to a close. It took me some time to process everything but I think I finally have the words to talk about it.

Doing this show was magical, unbelievably challenging, heartwarming, and exactly why I wanted to start acting. I got to work alongside some of the most talented, skilled, and kindest people I have ever had the honor of sharing a stage with. This was an incredibly challenging show: physically, vocally, and emotionally. I wouldn’t have made it through this run without the support of the beautiful cast and crew, who I love so dearly and already miss spending everyday with.

This show has also been the most personal to me. So much of what I discovered with Christopher came from deep within me. I’ve known pretty much my whole life that I have autism, and even after finally being diagnosed a few years ago I still hadn’t fully processed how much I’ve had to suppress and morph myself to pass as neurotypical. Playing Christopher gave me the freedom to present myself as I am, and to not be ashamed of that.

I am especially grateful to have gotten to speak to so many audience members who were also on the spectrum, or had family and friends with autism, or who were in special education who were affected by this show and getting to see a story about autism *being told by someone with autism*.

This show is so much about capability, and that when given the proper tools, we can navigate any obstacle the world has put in our way. This story has been my life for the last two and a half months, and it has been incredibly hard to say goodbye to it. I cried my entire drive home after closing. I cried because I didn’t want this incredible journey to end, to stop sharing this story with the family we’ve made…
and to say goodbye to Christopher.

But that’s the nature of art, we put our entire being into something, and then we have to set it free. As much as it hurts to let go, I’m so happy to have even done this in the first place, and to have gotten the kind of opportunity I’ve dreamed, trained, and fought to achieve for years. And for that, I am proud.

“Does that mean, I can do…

Anything?”
