Magic Rock, Poseidon’s Key into the Great Southern Ocean 🗝️✨

When I was feeling a little heartbroken, my girlfriends decided the best remedy was to get me outdoors, into some adventure and good company, and honestly, they were so right ❤️‍🩹

The road trip to Warrnambool turned into a weekend of long drives, far too many chips, music and singing (this song was on repeat for a couple of sessions), and freezing nights camping (its not assault if I force my friend into my tent so I can spoon her for warmth, right? 😂🥶)

They went back to work once the weekend was over, while I took a few extra days off to shoot some photos along the Great Ocean Road. Incredible conditions, beautiful places, and an unexpected encounter with the lovely @brent_martin_photography for a few giggles genuinely helped me feel so much better. Astrophotography is my kind of medicine 😊

Of course, I finished with a relaxing dip at a bathhouse in Warrnambool, because im half running around on mountains and half a perfume princess haha 😂 I came home feeling very lucky to have the people I do in my life.

As a human rights lawyer, I spend much of my working life standing alongside women, supporting them and advocating for their rights. It means a lot to me to have that same spirit of care and solidarity in my own life, too ❤️

From the women in my family and lifelong friends to the women im still getting to know, im so grateful for how you all always show up, make space for one another, and remind us that we dont have to navigate the hard things alone.

To all the women in my life, and those ive yet to meet, thank you for making this world a little softer and a lot more beautiful ❤️

Milky Way over Briançon 🏰✨

Captured a year ago, this shot shows the Milky Way core transiting over the gorge of the Durance River, with the historic fortifications of Briançon, in the French Alps.
The Asfeld Bridge, visible near the centre, was built in 1731 to connect the Fort des Têtes (left) with the Citadel of Briançon (right). Designed by Vauban, these fortifications were listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2008.

The sky is much darker just outside of town, but I wanted to capture this historic site and familiar skyline despite the nearby streetlights and vehicles passing by every minute.
The blue upward beacon on the right is from the spotlights illuminating Antoine Bourdelle’s 1925 sculpture, La France, atop the Citadel.
The light pollution is washing out most of the otherwise colourful Rho Ophiuchi region, but the faint red glow of Zeta Ophiuchi nebula still shines through (see labels). I didn’t use an H-alpha filter here, just a light pollution filter. The starglow effect is natural, created by a thin layer of fog.

My first attempt to capture Milkyway and astrophotography

Under the glow of a brilliant moon and a sweeping celestial river, the majestic temple at Narkanda stands as a peaceful sanctuary where the earth directly touches the cosmos. "A Pool Full of Stars ✨

I went up in the mountains just hoping for a quiet night sky, but a tiny pool was holding the Milky Way. I stayed there smiling, thinking.

Stars trembling on the surface, and for a second it felt like the sky had quietly dropped to Earth. I stood there way longer than I planned, just trying to take it in.

Braided Symmetry

A panorama from one of the many braids of the Tasman River, shot at my favourite time of year to capture the night sky -when zodiacal light beams up toward the core of the Milky Way.

This one cost me - while scouting this spot near sunset, I crossed the Tasman & lost my phone, straight in the drink, only realising after walking a further 200 metres. So instead of focussing on finding my composition, I spent two hours re-tracing my steps, a lot of that time wading through the river, hoping I’d see it. No bueno. I gave up once I couldn’t feel my legs anymore, and couldn’t keep warm..

Wasn’t all bad though. Right on sunset cloud had rolled in, I thought shooting Astro wasn’t going to happen. After pacing up & down the riverbed for a couple of hours, the cloud cleared & I found this spot. So I guess it all worked out OK.

(My pose in the image is my own personal in-joke… it’s pretty much how I spent the previous two hours, patrolling the riverbed obsessively, torch in hand, praying my phone would show up!)

The Edge!
The southernmost rocks of the island. A shot I had been planning for quite some time, waiting for the perfect moment when the Milky Way would align exactly as I had envisioned.

And yes, it’s just as terrifying as it looks to be standing that close to the edge 😛

The Mongolian Yurts in the North of Portugal.

Brought all the way from Mongolia, these traditional yurts offer a unique way to experience nature and sleep beneath the stars in one of Portugal’s darkest skies.

This particular yurt is called Altai, sharing its name with the majestic mountain range stretching across Central Asia.

And in a beautiful coincidence, the bright star Altair shines right above it, surrounded by the countless stars and glowing nebulae of our Milky Way.

This image is composed of 24 panels using both the Voigtlander 50mm f/2 for the sky and the Sigma 28mm f/1.4 Art to capture this beautiful landscape at @nomadplanet_pt

Beyond Namibia’s iconic locations, there are countless places with no famous names and endless possibilities for striking compositions.

With skies this dark across much of the country, you can wander off the beaten path, explore new locations, and photograph places that may never have been captured at night before.

This is one of those places. Granite boulders stretch for miles in every direction, and the challenge is finding order in the chaos.

Camping alone in outback Australia ❤️

Astrophotography is about so much more than the photograph. Its about the story, the connections, the lessons. This image holds a night in remote NSW that began with fear and ended with uncomfortable realisations.

Feeling frightened camping alone, I reached out to someone who had not been treating me well, asking him to keep me company. We spoke for a short while and laughed a little, but underneath it all, I felt ashamed that I was trying so hard to be wanted by someone whose treatment had left me in tears more times than I cared to admit.

As a neurodivergent woman, I’ve spent much of my life masking, analysing others and accommodating their needs at the expense of my own wellbeing. Under the stars that night, I reflected on my faith and the person I want to be, and realised it was time for something to change.

I don’t want fear of rejection or loneliness to convince me to abandon my values or keep trying to make someone who does not treat me well to like me.

Protecting your boundaries doesn’t make you cruel. Saying no to one compliment after a hundred insults doesn’t make you unappreciative. You can care about someone while recognising that their presence in your life is hurting you. They don’t have to be a villain for you to step away, but you can’t preserve your wellbeing by continually exposing yourself to someone who lacks empathy.

Recognition is wonderful, but it can last five minutes before fading, leaving us chasing the next five minutes over and over again, like Sisyphus. We can become so focused on the attention of strangers who know nothing about us that we neglect those who genuinely care and, without realising it, miss the boat to Valinor.

I want to live authentically, hold onto my faith and values, and choose to give my love to what is good over what is easiest or most gratifying.

I would rather stand alone, as I did camping in remote NSW, than lose myself trying to be someone I’m not ❤️✨

Finally edited a photo from La Palma… and wow. Coming from Italy with its heavy light pollution, capturing clean RGB here felt almost too easy 😅 — 10 seconds for what usually takes us 10 minutes back home.
On the island I focused more on Ha and OIII, chasing those deep reds and the faint greens. Beyond the incredible sky itself, La Palma is pure magic: standing on the rim of a volcano, listening to the soft mechanical sounds of the telescopes turning in the night… one of the things I’ll remember most. The first night I didn’t even take a single shot — I just stood there and stared.
