Long overdue post ahead 🐉✨

Introducing Emily Thiede's Gilded Wings, a wonderful YA romantic fantasy!

I genuinely cannot express how long I’ve been waiting to illustrate dragons! I had "Test Drive" and those ambient fantasy YouTube streams playing on repeat while working on this, just fully trying to marinate in the ✨fantasy vibes✨. And honestly, I feel like some of that whimsy made its way into the final art.

This is probably the most experimental cover I’ve done so far. I got to mix a bunch of techniques I normally use when painting traditionally with my digital process, and it was just so much fun to experiment and see where it took me.

This cover was such a joy to bring to life. 💜🧡
Huge thank you to @anto_marrt @wednesdaybooks and @ektwrites for trusting me with this one! It was such a pleasure working with you both, and I genuinely cannot wait to see this absolute dream of a fantasy novel out in the world.

✨ Dragons, Rivalries & Other Dangerous Things ✨

🐉 Give me a dragon sanctuary, a dragon veterinarian, a unique magic system, and a little forbidden romance, and I’m ready to go. When Dealing with Dragons by @danaswiftbooks was such a fun, cozy YA fantasy that still managed to weave in some heavier themes surrounding class, wealth, and exploitation.

⚔️ One of my favorite parts was the magic system. Dragons are connected to different metals, each with their own magical properties, and those same metals play a role in the social hierarchy. It was such a creative way to tie the world-building and magic together, and of course, I loved getting to know the dragons themselves.

🩶 Then there’s Farren and James. Their relationship starts off very much in the “we absolutely do not like each other” category, but the dual POV lets you see just how quickly that starts to fall apart. Watching them slowly realize their assumptions about each other were wrong was genuinely sweet, and James being a boy with a very obvious crush was adorable. 😂

✨ The pacing did pick up quite a bit in the second half, and I occasionally wished certain moments had more time to breathe, but overall this was an entertaining and comforting read with plenty of dragons, found family, first love, and higher stakes sprinkled in.

🎁 And I have to give a little love to the package from Dana Swift and her publisher! The art cards and stickers were such a sweet addition and gave me a fun little peek into the world before I even started reading. Thank you so much for the gifted book and goodies! 🥹
