The Stellar Cast Part II__Once Upon a Malaysian Dream
__

I have worked with a few of these actors, and some are performers I have admired for years. Watching them from the very beginning—from the table read through last night’s opening—I was constantly in awe of their talent.
Over the past five weeks, I watched them build layer upon layer of the many characters they had to embody, culminating in an extraordinary onstage presentation. The choices they made and the subtle nuances they brought to each character were exquisite. I could not have asked for more.
The younger performers held their own as well. Watching them challenge themselves to play multiple roles, each with its own distinct characteristics and nuances, was incredibly humbling. Their ability to differentiate one character from another while remaining fully committed to each portrayal was deeply impressive.
When Kee Thuan Chye asked me to come on board as his co-producer, I was already in the midst of producing another production. I was initially apprehensive about taking on an additional commitment, but I am glad I decided to step outside my comfort zone. I have been reading his work and admiring his tenacity for years, and it has been a privilege to work alongside him and witness the creative process up close.
This production has reminded me why theatre matters: it asks people to be vulnerable, to take risks and to create something together. I feel deeply grateful to have witnessed that process so closely.
These talented actors took audiences on a journey of laughter, tears, music and movement, bringing their characters vividly to life on stage. Through its political satire, the production invites us to reflect on our nation-building journey and the values that unite us as Malaysians—regardless of race, religion or political affiliation.

ONCE UPON A MALAYSIAN DREAM.

The Dream became more ethereal with these B&W photos.

What a joyous, stellar experience.

We did have the 'Dream Team', lol!

Thank @ktchye , @foocaccia and everybody else for having me in this production.

Was that a fever dream?

For 6 weeks, I embarked on a once in a lifetime journey where I got to live out my dream as a full time theatre actor. It was wake up-rehearse-sleep. Rinse and repeat that for 8 hours a day, 6 days a week.

It’s been 6 years since I last acted in a 3 hour play, where I had so much to do. And this time, boy was there even more to do! The most quick changes I’ve ever had. But it was so much fun!

And it was a dream. A dream that was fully realized thanks to the cast and crew.

And to think I almost said ‘No’ to @ktchye whom I owe a lot to because I couldn’t read the script until I signed on and showed up for the first table read.

Thank you, Chye for allowing me to be a part of this journey!

And my first post for @thedreamteam.my is dedicated to the dream cast whom I adore and respect and most definitely had a lot of fun with (and get into mischiefs).

It’s a wrap! ✨💖
The success of this production truly wouldn’t have been possible without our incredible creative team, cast, and crew. Thank you for pouring your hearts into every rehearsal, every show, and every behind-the-scenes moment. To our audience: thank you for showing up, laughing, crying, and letting this story live with you. We’re so proud of what we made together. Though the run has ended, the memories (and maybe a few inside jokes) will stick around.
