There’s a difference between being an influencer and having influence, and Anton Peeples knows exactly which one he’s building toward.

“An influencer can just say, ‘I like this plate of food, go get it.’ But someone who has influence can move you, can change your life, can help you grow, can direct you into the phase of your life in which you want to go.”

In our interview, Peeples gets honest about what he actually wants to put into the world, what it took to start creating on his own terms, and the story he hopes inspires someone else who hasn’t given up yet.

“If the industry is not taking a look at you, if they’re not helping you, if they’re not moving you, do it yourself.”

What Brings You Joy?

Thank you so much to @myjoyburst for hosting a beautiful event that asked that very question.

Community, love, art, creativity and sunshine are just a few things that bring me joy.

Thank you to @jessicameisels, @fingerprintcommunications , @calamigos.beachclub, @brookeburke for a beautiful time.

In a industry built on constant auditions, waiting, and rejection, how do you keep giving your all when things aren’t moving the way you planned?

“You have to be grateful for where you are right now in order for God to move you to the next level.”

For Anton Peeples, his relationship with God and the power of getting on his knees in prayer is what anchors him.

But he also shared a tough-love moment with his mother that stopped him in his tracks. After admitting he felt frustrated watching other artists get the positions he wanted, his mom handed him a life-changing truth: “You aren’t grateful. Gratitude will change everything.”

Actor, singer, and multi-hyphenate creative Anton Peeples gets real about the journey, from growing up in the suburbs of Detroit, shaped by the sounds of Motown, to moving to New York at 16 to chase music and acting, to grinding through nearly a decade in Los Angeles before things started to click.

Peeples opens up about his guest-starring role on HBO’s “Insecure”, his appearance on Showtime’s #TheChi, and what it’s been like to build a career across film, television, music, hosting, and content creation simultaneously.

He also talks about his new thriller “Night Shift”, now streaming on Tubi alongside Apryl Jones, and an upcoming project coming to Amazon Prime later this year.

The conversation gets personal as Peeples breaks down the difference between being an influencer and being truly influential, why he fell out of love with music and how he found his way back, and what his mother told him about gratitude that stopped him in his tracks.
